The Derbarl Yerrigan Health Service (DYHS) was established in 1974 and is the largest Aboriginal community-controlled health service provider in Western Australia, providing care to over 20,000 Aboriginal patients across four clinics in East Perth, Mirrabooka, Maddington and Midland. Our staff enable the delivery of culturally responsive primary health services, focusing on prevention, early intervention, comprehensive care and care coordination including chronic disease management.

About the role
The Youth Support Worker plays a key role in supporting the wellbeing and development of Aboriginal young people accessing Derbarl Yerrigan Health Service. This role provides culturally safe, strengths‑based support that empowers young people to build resilience, strengthen cultural identity, and feel connected to their families, community, and culture.
This role is a fixed-term contract, ending 30 June 2026.
Youth Support & Engagement
- Build positive, culturally safe relationships with Aboriginal young people.
- Provide one‑on‑one support and run youth‑focused group activities and workshops.
- Support young people facing school, family, mental health or social challenges.
Community & Family Connection
- Work respectfully with families, Elders, schools and service providers.
- Support community events and youth engagement activities.
Program Delivery
- Assist with planning, delivering and evaluating SEWB youth programs.
- Deliver and promote wellbeing, resilience and strong cultural identity.
Professional Practice
- Maintain cultural safety, confidentiality and professional boundaries.
- Participate in team meetings, supervision and ongoing trainings.
SELECTION CRITERIA
- Current Certificate II in Community Services, Youth Work, Social Work or equivalent qualification.
- Valid First Aid and Mental Health First Aid certificate.
- Ability to demonstrate experience supporting young people in a culturally safe, respectful and strengths-focused manner.
- Experience delivering youth-focused group programs, workshops or activities.
- Experience in case management or individual support.
- Knowledge of Aboriginal culture, history and community needs.
- Sound organisational skills, including time-management and accurate record keeping.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team.

- Current National Police Clearance
- Valid Driver’s License and willingness to travel as required
- Commitment to ongoing personal development and or training
- Successful Pre-Employment Health Assessment
