About the Role

As a Welfare Support Officer, you will work closely with Social Workers, SEWB practitioners, and multidisciplinary clinical teams to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients experiencing social, emotional, and systemic challenges. The role focuses on trauma-informed, strengths-based case management and advocacy to address the social determinants of health and promote self-determination.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver culturally safe and trauma-informed welfare support services across DYHS clinics and outreach settings.
  • Undertake holistic psychosocial assessments and develop tailored intervention plans.
  • Provide case management, advocacy, and support relating to housing, Centrelink, mental health, AOD, child safety, and family support.
  • Support clients accessing the DYHS Emergency Relief Program and crisis response services.
  • Work collaboratively with SEWB staff, clinicians, and external service providers.
  • Facilitate referrals to internal DYHS services and external community agencies.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary case conferences, care planning, and outreach activities.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential case notes and contribute to continuous service improvement.

About You

You will bring strong cultural capability, empathy, and professionalism, along with the ability to build trust and meaningful relationships with clients, families, and community.

Essential requirements:

  1. Certificate IV or higher qualification in Welfare Studies, Community Services, Social Work, Mental Health, Counselling, or a related field.
  2. Demonstrated understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and the social determinants of health.
  3. Experience in case management, advocacy, and working with complex social and emotional wellbeing needs.
  4. Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  5. Knowledge of relevant legislation, including child protection, family violence, and mental health frameworks.

Desirable:

  • Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander applicants are strongly encouraged to apply.

Other Requirements

  • Current Working with Children Check (or ability to obtain)
  • Satisfactory National Police Clearance (issued within the last 6 months)
  • Valid WA Driver’s Licence and willingness to travel across Perth metro sites
  • Successful Pre-Employment Health Assessment
