The Tackling Indigenous Smoking (TIS) Program is a regional collaboration between Bullinah Aboriginal Health Service, Galambila, and Awabakal Aboriginal Medical Services, working together to deliver culturally safe tobacco control initiatives from the Northern Rivers to Newcastle.
As part of this program, you will help reduce smoking prevalence and improve life expectancy in Aboriginal communities by delivering community-focused activities that promote engagement, education, and awareness of smoking and vaping impacts in homes, workplaces, and vulnerable groups.
What You’ll Do
Work closely with the regional team to deliver smoking and vaping prevention programs across the region.
Engage with communities to promote intervention strategies and support organisations to implement Smoke and Vape Free workplace policies.
Adapt messaging and materials to reflect community priorities, including visits to isolated communities.
Participate in joint programs, school visits, community events, and strategic planning with partner organisations.
About the Role
Location: Ballina, NSW
Travel: A key component of this role, covering Aboriginal communities from the Central Coast to Tweed Heads.
Focus: Health promotion activities targeting smoking and vaping behaviours.

Key Selection Criteria:
- Aboriginality – Female Identified
- Demonstrated experience in effectively communicating and working constructively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, including developing and maintaining effective networks, alliances and relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals, families, communities, and health sector organisations using a strengths-based approach;
- Understanding of the health, social and emotional wellbeing needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people;
- Demonstrated experience in project administration, coordination and planning, including demonstration of strong organisational skills and the ability to negotiate for positive results
- Demonstrated well-developed interpersonal, written and oral communication skills;
- Personal drive and ability to determine priorities, demonstrated ability to work effectively in teams and the ability to manage workloads to achieve program goals;
- Knowledge of smoking prevention and cessation programs;
- A willingness to travel and work weekends and/or after hours
MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS:
- Current NSW ‘C” class Drivers Licence.
- Working with Children Check Clearance.
- COVID -19 Vaccination
- National Police Check Clearance
