The Opportunity
We are looking for a Financial Accountant to join our team and work closely with the Finance Director across core accounting and financial operations. This is a hands-on role with exposure to month-end close, financial analysis and the end-to-end finance function.
The role is well suited to a CA/CPA-qualified (or near-qualified) accountant, particularly someone making their first move from public practice or a Big 4 firm into industry. You will gain broad commercial exposure while helping to build and improve finance processes as the business continues to grow.
The position can be based in Sydney or Melbourne.
What You’ll Do
Reporting to the Finance Director, the Financial Accountant will support the day-to-day finance operations and play a key role in maintaining accurate financial records and delivering timely financial insights. Key responsibilities include:
- Assist with the month-end close process, including preparation of journals, accruals and financial reports
- Perform balance sheet reconciliations and investigate variances to ensure accuracy and completeness
- Support the preparation of financial analysis and management reporting to inform business decision-making
- Manage accounts receivable, including customer invoicing, collections and monitoring outstanding balances
- Oversee accounts payable processes, ensuring timely and accurate processing of supplier invoices and payments
- Process and maintain payroll using Xero, ensuring compliance with relevant payroll and tax requirements
- Assist with cash flow monitoring and forecasting
- Support the annual audit process and liaise with external auditors as required
- Contribute to process improvements and finance system optimisation
- Provide ad-hoc financial analysis and support to the Finance Director as the business grows
What You’ll Bring
- 1–3 years’ experience in a financial accounting role within industry, or experience in a Big 4 public practice environment
- CA or CPA qualified (or near completion)
- Strong understanding of financial accounting principles and month-end processes
- Experience performing balance sheet reconciliations and financial analysis
- Exposure to accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll processes
- Experience using Xero or similar cloud-based accounting systems
- Strong Excel skills and ability to work with financial data
- High level of attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to work independently while collaborating closely with senior finance leadership
