Who we are
Countersight is a specialist cybersecurity company delivering security research, capability development and consulting services to clients within government and across the private sector. We are independent, Australian, and Canberra based but with the flexibility to operate Australia wide.
Our team works on interesting problems across the entire technology stack, from embedded systems to web and mobile applications, finding creative ways to deliver the capability our clients need.
The Role
Location: Canberra, ACT
Hours: Full-time
Salary: $80,000 – $180,000 (plus super) based on experience
Our Cybersecurity Consultants (Detect & Respond) work with clients to directly address the cyber risks they face through targeted threat detection, incident response, and security operations uplift. We focus on building operational capability that ensures our clients detect the threat facing them, respond effectively and provide assurance around their systems and information with the goal of fostering self-sufficiency within client teams. With a particular focus on Google SecOps, but working across a range of technologies, our consultants deliver expertise and capability including:
- Incident response & threat detection
- Threat intelligence & reporting
- SOC design & modernisation
- SIEM, endpoint and cloud security technologies
- Systems design, integration & accreditation support
Working individually or in small teams, our consultants work on engagements ranging from short-term incident response exercises through to long-term deployments embedded as subject matter experts within client teams—often supporting the transition from legacy tooling to modern cloud-native SOC capability.
We are looking for people with relevant cybersecurity experience and an interest in consultancy work, from mid-career through to experienced consultants—particularly those who enjoy combining hands-on technical work with client advisory, enablement, and uplift.
A background in consultancy is not a must-have, and we would be interested in talking with anyone looking for an opportunity to get into consultancy—especially candidates with strong operational security experience who want to broaden into platform engineering, detection engineering and SOC transformation work.
Must-have:
- Experience in a cybersecurity operations role ideally focused on SOC operations, incident response, threat detection, cybersecurity engineering or a related area.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and stakeholder management.
- Strong technical experience across cyberoperations technologies including SIEM/SOAR, EDR, and cloud security platforms.
Nice-to-have:
- Incident response and cyber operations experience and accreditations.
- Experience with Google SecOps & Bindplane.
- Familiarity with Australian Government procurement and compliance practices.
- Working knowledge of security and compliance frameworks, including PSPF, ISM and Essential 8.
- Cloud & system engineering experience.
