Summary:

The Academic Advisor is responsible for providing academic guidance and support to students, helping them achieve their academic and career goals through mentoring, advising, and monitoring their academic progress. The role requires a bachelor’s degree in education, counseling or a related field, 2-3 years of experience in academic advising or a related field, excellent communication skills, attention to detail, proficiency in academic advising software and other technological tools, and analytical skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Academic Advising: Provide academic advice and guidance to students, help them understand their program requirements, select courses, and create a roadmap to achieving their academic goals.
  • Mentorship: Provide mentorship and support to students, help them navigate academic and personal challenges, provide academic and career advice, and help students develop effective study skills.
  • Program Management: Manage assigned programs, actively monitor students’ academic progress, and identify any potential issues that could impact their academic journey.
  • Student Outreach: Work closely with students, faculty, and staff to promote program offerings, answer student inquiries, and address any concerns or complaints students may have.
  • Data Management: Maintain accurate records of student academic progress and program evaluations, and be proficient in the use of academic advising software and other technological tools.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in education, counseling or a related field is required. A master’s degree is preferred.
  • Experience: At least 2-3 years of experience in academic advising or a related field.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills, as this role requires frequent interaction with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Attention to Detail: Detail-oriented and able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Technology Skills: Proficiency in academic advising software and other technological tools.
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze student data to identify trends and potential issues that could impact their academic journey.
