Community Facilitator – Mooroopna (Maternity Leave Backfill Role)

Mooroopna • Mooroopna, Victoria 3629, Australia • Full-time

Description

The Colman Education Foundation is seeking an amazing person to join the Our Place team, as a Community Facilitator at Mooroopna. The position is a maternity leave backfill role with a duration of three months, from mid April to mid July 2026.

At Our Place, we believe that supporting local schools to be the hub of a whole community is one of the best ways to enable long lasting change in communities experiencing disadvantage. We enable this by working in partnership with local services, government and the local community to increase collaboration and to support all children and their families to succeed in life.

Our site in Mooroopna was established in 2020 with the vision being that ‘We are a united, welcoming and inclusive environment. We embrace diversity, encourage belonging and nurture learning; empowering and enabling our children and families to achieve their best.’

About the role

Community Facilitators are at the core of the Our Place approach, working on-site with the local community, partners and stakeholders to find ways of better connecting services to community need. The role also supports important internal work of site governance, capturing evidence of changes on the site and building and implementing the Our Place approach.

Being a Community Facilitator is a varied and unique role. You’ll show day-to-day leadership by influencing and collaborating with others from different organisations and cultural contexts. Navigating these diverse relationships is at the heart of this work – you will need flexibility and grit, an ability to manage ambiguity, and a desire to learn.

In return, you’ll have the opportunity to demonstrate different ways of working in communities and to be part of a state-wide group of equally passionate, curious and committed colleagues.

If you had been in this role for the past two weeks, you would have:

  • Spent time at the school drop-off greeting and meeting parents and having informal discussions about their family’s needs and supporting them to access services and community activities
  • Participated in the Our Place team meetings and the Community Facilitators’ Community of Practice and another additional professional development session
  • Been accessible to parents and site staff who dropped by your office to chat about their needs and requirements and help them with queries
  • Hosted the weekly afterschool activities for children and their families, building social connections and encouraging learning through play
  • Met with a local service provider to discuss opportunities for providing an on-site program
  • Produced a newsletter, reports for site workgroups and the internal site data report to capture the number of parents and families utilising on site programs and services.
  • Compiled minutes following work group meetings.
