Head of Trading

Description

As Head of Trading, you will lead Climate Friendly’s trading activities to optimise revenue, provide services to clients, manage risk, and ensure compliance with AFSL obligations in line with governance processes. You will develop and execute a trading and portfolio strategy that supports organisational objectives, while managing a small team to deliver disciplined trading decisions and high-quality reporting.

Working closely with the Executive team, you will play a critical role in monitoring market fundamentals, identifying trading opportunities, and providing strategic advice on market trends. Acting as a Responsible Manager under the AFSL, you will embed compliance and governance into all trading operations and lead process improvements to support efficiency and risk management.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Team leadership and development

  • Lead and manage the Trading team including developing the team annual plan.
  • Recruit, coach, and develop team capability to deliver key outcomes.
  • Complete performance and development plans and align goals to corporate objectives.
  • Foster an inclusive, diverse, and engaged team culture aligned with Climate Friendly values.

Trading strategy and portfolio management

  • Develop and maintain a portfolio view aligned with organisational objectives.
  • Make priority decisions on holding or trading ACCUs in line with agreed strategy.
  • Monitor market fundamentals and identify trading opportunities.
  • Coordinate complex transactions and support the team with trading execution.

Compliance and governance

  • Act as the Responsible Manager to ensure compliance with Climate Friendly’s AFSL.
  • Embed AFSL compliance requirements into trading operations and decision-making.
  • Manage risk exposure across all trading activities, including mark-to-market and P&L reporting.
  • Manage the Buyer Integrity Framework to ensure alignment with strategic objectives and embed integrity standards into trading practices.
  • Attend AFSL and risk meetings and address potential breaches and risks.

Relationship management

  • Build and maintain relationships with compliance buyers and intermediaries.
  • Build and maintain relationships with voluntary buyers.

Reporting and oversight

  • Prepare and present monthly trading reports for Executive and Board.
  • Provide updates on market dynamics and trading performance.
  • Review and approve contracts above team thresholds and trading invoices.
  • Review published work including market reports, KPIs, and dashboards.

Strategic advice and cross-functional collaboration

  • Support the Executive team with strategy development and market analysis.
  • Collaborate with Finance on forecasts, sensitivities, and budget assumptions.
  • Coordinate with Commercial, Projects and Partnerships and Legal Hubs on trading priorities.
  • Provide input on the innovation of new trading-related products or services to ensure alignment with demand, market strategy and compliance requirements.
  • Participate in working groups as required.

About you

  • 5+ years’ experience in trading with demonstrated portfolio management expertise.
  • Experience in regulated financial services markets and AFSL compliance requirements.
  • Strong understanding of ACCU market fundamentals.
  • Expertise in risk management and reporting.
  • Proven experience managing and developing a small team.
  • Strong analytical capability and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across functions and maintain strategic discipline.
