About the Program:
Y2I Homes is funded under Housing Tasmania to provide accommodation and support for young people 16-24 years to transition to independence and sustain good housing outcomes whilst participating in education and training. Accommodation is provided through the Youth2Rediness cluster style, with 24/7 onsite support, and shared homes for young people with lower support needs.
About the role:
The Support Worker is responsible for providing Y2I Homes services in accordance with Housing Tasmania’s Y2I Supported Accommodation Policy, grant deed, and head lease. Providing safe and affordable accommodation with the goal of implementing an advantage thinking capabilities approach and supporting young people achieve ‘The Deal’, to build their capabilities as they transition into secure sustainable housing. Providing a range of person-centered responses for young people who are experiencing homelessness, for the duration of need, ensures a trauma-informed environment is nurtured. Identifying, building, and formalising collaborative approaches to engage with the local community and allied health services.
Essential Requirements:
- Qualification requirements: Degree level qualification in social work/community services, or relevant work experience.
- National Police Criminal History Check: Satisfactory police check, to be completed on a 3-yearly basis from commencement. Crimes involving violence, aggression, drugs, fraud, dishonesty, and excessive motor vehicle-related offences would be cause for discontinuance of employment.
- Working with Vulnerable People registration: Must maintain current and valid Working with Vulnerable People registration; and must carry evidence of this at all times.
- Drivers Licence: Maintaining a current driver’s licence is a requirement of this role.

Selection Criteria
1. Demonstrated experience in providing support to Young People 16-24 including an understanding of the issues facing young people at risk and an understanding of the causes and impacts of Homelessness.
2. Demonstrated capacity to deliver services utilising an advantage thinking approach that focuses on the capabilities, strengths, and aspirations of those accessing the service.
3. Strong written and verbal communication skills and highly developed interpersonal skills including active listening, negotiation, and conflict resolution.
4. Demonstrated experience in adhering to policies and procedures including a commitment to Quality Assurance Processes and demonstrated ability to adhere to professional boundaries and client confidentiality.
5. Commitment to the vision, mission, and values of CatholicCare Tasmania; ensuring that services provided to those who are the most vulnerable are delivered respectfully and in recognition of every person’s inherent value, and a broad understanding of the operation of the Catholic Church in Tasmania
6. Commitment to Safeguarding Children and those with significant vulnerabilities.
