The Counselling Services Team Leader
provides operational leadership, practice oversight and workforce support to CatholicCare’s Counselling Services team, ensuring high-quality, compliant and sustainable counselling and psychological services across funded and fee-for-service programs.
The role leads a multidisciplinary team of counsellors and psychologists, supports service integration within the Family Services Stream, and ensures services are delivered in accordance with funding agreements, professional standards, legislative requirements and CatholicCare’s mission and values.
The Team Leader is accountable for day-to-day service performance, staff supervision, quality assurance, workforce coordination and contribution to service sustainability and growth,
while working collaboratively with other Family Services Team Leaders and the Family Services Manager to support integrated, whole-of-family service delivery.
The Counselling Services Team Leader is accountable for:
• Providing day-to-day operational leadership of Counselling Services, including coordination of staff, workloads and service coverage;
• Providing line management and supervision oversight to counsellors and psychologists to
support safe, ethical and high-quality practice;
• Ensuring compliance with professional standards, legislative requirements and funding
agreements across all counselling and psychological services;
• Monitoring service demand, caseloads and performance to support access, quality outcomes
and service sustainability;
• Overseeing documentation, quality assurance and risk management within Counselling
Services;
• Supporting service integration and stakeholder engagement across the Family Services
Stream to enable whole-of-family service delivery; and
• Contributing to service development and sustainability initiatives, including continuous
improvement and growth opportunities.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential:
• Relevant tertiary qualification in Counselling, Psychology, Social Work or a related discipline;
• Eligibility for, or current membership/registration with, a relevant professional body (e.g. AHPRA,
ACA, PACFA), where applicable; and
• Current C class driver’s license (QLD).
Desirable:
• Postgraduate qualification in a relevant discipline; and/or
• Approved supervisor status (or working towards).
Core Competencies
• Demonstrated experience delivering counselling or psychological services within a community
or human services setting;
• Demonstrated experience in staff supervision, leadership and/or coordination within a
multidisciplinary team environment;
• Experience working across multiple funding streams and, where required, service locations;
• Demonstrated ability to provide operational leadership and coordinate service delivery
within a counselling or family services environment;
• Sound practice leadership capability, including supervision oversight and support for safe,
ethical and evidence-based counselling and psychological practice;
• Strong understanding of relevant legislation, professional standards and funding requirements applicable to counselling and family relationship services;
• Well-developed judgement, risk assessment and problem-solving skills, particularly in complex
or sensitive client matters;
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills to support staff leadership, stakeholder
engagement and collaborative service delivery;
• Demonstrated ability to monitor service performance, manage competing priorities and
contribute to service sustainability and continuous improvement; and
• High level of digital literacy to support accurate documentation, data management and reporting within organisational systems.
Other Requirements
• Regular travel within the Diocese.
The successful candidate will also be required to demonstrate entitlement to work in Australia, and to disclose any pre-existing injury or disease which may be adversely affected by undertaking the inherent requirements of the position.
