About the Role
The AFL Talent Scout – SA and WA is responsible for
identifying, monitoring and assessing emerging football talent across the South
and West region.
The role supports the Club’s list management and
recruiting strategy by delivering accurate, timely, and high‑quality talent
intelligence, contributing to draft, rookie, and future talent decisions
aligned with the Carlton Football Club’s football strategy and values.
This position is offered as a minimum two‑year fixed‑term
contract and can be based in either South Australia or Western Australia.
Regular travel across both states is required, including evenings and weekends.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify, evaluate and track emerging football talent within the South‑West region across SANFL U18 and WAFL Colts, SANFL and WAFL (League/ Reserves pathways) and local
leagues and school competitions.
- Conduct live and video‑based player assessments.
- Maintain up‑to‑date talent notes, rankings and reports.
- Produce detailed written reports on identified players, including football strengths and
development areas, physical profile and athletic traits, character, competitiveness and leadership indicators.
- Provide regular updates to the Head of List Manager and recruiting team.
- Contribute to draft boards, shortlists and internal recruiting discussions.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with State Talent Managers and staff among SANFL and WAFL clubs, local club coaches and administrators and school football programs
- Represent Carlton Football Club professionally within the region.
- Work closely with the Head of List Management, State based part-time recruiting staff – delegate, assign, review, support, other regional recruiting coordinators and List management and football operations staff.
- Share intelligence and insights to support national recruiting strategy.
- Ensure all recruiting activity aligns with AFL rules and regulations.
- Maintain accurate records within club recruiting systems.
- Adhere to confidentiality and data integrity standards.
Experience, Skills and Attributes
- Strong understanding of Australian football talent pathways.
- Previous experience in AFL / State League / Talent Pathway recruiting.
- Knowledge of South Australia and Western Australia football landscape.
- Demonstrated ability to assess football performance and potential.
- Ability to work autonomously across a regional portfolio.
- Experience using recruiting software, databases, video analysis, remote server access.
- Balanced and open approach to leverage data in recruitment decision making.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship‑building skills.
- High attention to detail in written and verbal reporting.
- Alignment with Carlton Football Club values and behaviours.
