The Carer Gateway Support Officer role is a full-time fixed-term (to 30 June 2027) position which is subject to ongoing funding. The position attracts a salary package of $81,900 p.a., plus super and salary packaging, 5 weeks annual leave (with 17.5% leave loading) and two wellness days per annum.

About the role:

The role is multi-faceted, process driven and team orientated, requiring the ability to be adaptive to change and flexible in how work is undertaken. The role involves working in a strengths based, trauma informed manner through the process of intake, planning and identifying person-centered goals and supports for carers. The coordination and administration of financial and business functions is required to support the referral and delivery of services to carers, including a combination of administration, budgeting, contractor engagement and some scheduling duties.

Carers WA promotes a workplace free of physical and psychological harm, however, acknowledges that some roles and inherent actions of our business mean there may be exposure to traumatic narratives. In these instances, and where possible, Carers WA will mitigate the impact of this exposure.

Typical stressors associated with this role may include exposure to traumatic narratives, compassion fatigue, and handling callers who are experiencing frustration or burnout. Therefore, mental resilience, de-escalation skills and strong self-care strategies are vital to this role.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Contribute to the intake, planning and support function as required within the Carer Gateway Team, in compliance with the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing.
  • Maintain and develop comprehensive knowledge and strong understanding of funded and non-funded service providers, services options, and support agencies.
  • Communicate professionally and empathetically with carers.
  • Ensure all scheduled activities are undertaken in accordance with responsibilities and accountabilities within the allocated time frames.
  • Actively engage in ongoing professional development and training opportunities, and when participating in clinical and line management supervision, to minimise the typical stressors associated with this role.

Essential Selection Criteria:

  • Tertiary or other qualification in community / health services, social sciences, psychology, social work (min Cert IV).
  • Demonstrated experience with assessments, coordination of services and referral processes.
  • Knowledge and experience in trauma informed and strength based practice.
  • Proven competence with person-centered practice supporting individuals to increase independence, participation and wellbeing.
  • Understanding and empathy of carers, health, mental health, ageing, and disability issues including with First Nations, CaLD and LGBTQIA+ individuals and communities.
  • Willingness to work flexibly across different functions when required, including active participation in change management.
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills within various communication modes (phone, Teams, Zoom, face to face).
  • Demonstrated experience in administration and business processes, including fast and accurate data entry, and high level computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook) and customized client databases.
  • National Police Clearance issued within the last 3 months (to be provided upon employment).
  • Current C class drivers’ licence.
  • Current Working With Children Check as required
