WHS Advisor

Full-time | Woden | Multi-site | CSCC EA Level 11

Canberra Southern Cross Club is seeking an experienced WHS Advisor to support compliance, risk management, and safety performance across a complex, multi-site organisation.

Valid work visa or Australian work rights are required for this position.

Reporting to the General Manager People and Culture, this role provides expert, practical advice on work health and safety, partners closely with operational leaders, and plays a key role in strengthening safety systems, incident management, and workplace culture across all CSCC locations.

This is a hands-on advisory role suited to someone who can translate WHS legislation into practical outcomes and build strong relationships with leaders, employees, and Health and Safety Representatives.

About the role

Reporting to the General Manager People and Culture, the WHS Advisor plays a key role in supporting CSCC to meet its WHS obligations while continuously improving systems, practices, and performance.

While the role is based at our Central Office in Woden, it requires regular work across all CSCC venues to support inspections, investigations, consultation, and on-the-ground safety initiatives.

You will work collaboratively with the Executive Team, Venue Managers, Health and Safety Representatives, and employees to embed a proactive and ethical approach to work health and safety.

Key responsibilities

WHS advisory and compliance

  • Provide timely WHS advice in line with the Work Health and Safety Act, Regulations, and Codes of Practice
  • Support leaders with hazard identification, risk assessments, and control implementation
  • Act as a central point of contact for WHS queries across the organisation

Risk management and safety systems

  • Assist with the development, review, and implementation of WHS policies, procedures, and registers
  • Support workplace inspections, audits, hazard reporting, and corrective action tracking
  • Maintain accurate, compliant, and audit-ready WHS documentation

Incident and injury management

  • Coordinate incident, injury, and near-miss reporting and investigations
  • Support root cause analysis and implementation of corrective and preventative actions
  • Assist with workers’ compensation and return-to-work processes

Training, engagement, and consultation

  • Support WHS inductions, training programs, toolbox talks, and safety awareness initiatives
  • Provide guidance to Venue Managers and Health and Safety Representatives
  • Support effective consultation through WHS committees and engagement activities

Reporting and continuous improvement

  • Prepare WHS reports, dashboards, and trend analysis for management and governance forums
  • Monitor legislative changes and support implementation across CSCC
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and WHS projects

What we are looking for

Essential

  • Tertiary qualification in Work Health and Safety or a related discipline, or significant relevant experience
  • Demonstrated experience in a WHS advisory or coordination role
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of Work Health and Safety experience is required
  • Sound knowledge of ACT WHS legislation and risk management principles
  • Experience supporting incident investigations and WHS reporting

Desirable

  • Experience in a complex or multi-site organisation
  • Experience working with safety management systems and WHS software
