Summary:

The Cultural Advisor – BOC plays a vital role in promoting health and safety within the organisation by providing expert guidance on cultural practices and considerations. This part-time position is essential for ensuring that health and safety policies are inclusive and respectful of diverse cultural backgrounds, thereby enhancing workplace harmony and compliance with local regulations.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide cultural insights and recommendations to enhance health and safety policies.
  • Conduct training sessions to educate staff on cultural awareness and sensitivity.
  • Collaborate with health and safety teams to ensure cultural considerations are integrated into risk assessments.
  • Act as a liaison between management and diverse cultural groups within the organisation.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of cultural initiatives in health and safety practices.
  • Qualifications & Experience
  • No formal qualification is required; however, qualifications in cultural advisory, community development, or health-related fields are highly regarded.
  • Experience in a cultural advisory role, preferably in the health or community services sector, working with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities.
  • Current First Aid qualification is well-regarded.

Knowledge, Skills, and Capabilities

  • Extensive knowledge of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander cultures, histories, and practices.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust within the community.
  • Experience working within trauma-informed and person-centred care frameworks.
  • Ability to mentor and guide staff in cultural safety practices.
  • Sound understanding of the Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service structure will be highly regarded
  • Record-keeping, data management, and reporting skills.
  • Strong community connections and ability to foster partnerships with external stakeholders.

Qualifications & Experience

  • No formal qualification is required; however, qualifications in cultural advisory, community development, or health-related fields are highly regarded.
