What is a Technical Officer? (The role)
Our Northern Beaches office in Brookvale has a permanent, full‑time (35 hours per week) opportunity for an experienced Technical Officer to join our Assets team.
In this role, you’ll play a key part in supporting safe, well‑maintained homes by providing technical expertise across asset‑related works and programs. Working closely with internal teams, contractors and external partners, you’ll apply sound technical judgement to support maintenance delivery, capital works and long‑term asset planning with a strong focus on customer service and positive experiences for tenants.
What does a day as a Technical Officer look like?
- Supporting the delivery of quality homes by implementing and monitoring asset maintenance programs, ensuring works are delivered within agreed timeframes and budgets
- Coordinating and overseeing disability modifications, environmental sustainability initiatives and tenant alteration approvals across the portfolio
- Applying technical expertise to assess works undertaken by Bridge Housing and contractors, ensuring compliance with building codes, standards and WHS requirements through pre‑, progress and post‑work inspections
- Accurately scoping and managing vacant works to minimise turnaround times and loss of rental income
- Monitoring and auditing contractor performance, including workmanship quality, workplace health and safety and environmental compliance
- Identifying and escalating risks, defects or compliance issues through appropriate internal channels
- Project managing major structural works and supporting tender preparation and review
- Working collaboratively with Housing, Assets and other internal teams to support delivery and manage workload peaks
- Sharing technical knowledge and supporting capability‑building across Bridge Housing staff
- Engaging respectfully with tenants, property owners and stakeholders and responding professionally to enquiries
- Building and maintaining positive relationships with contractors, sector partners and industry stakeholders
Who are we looking for?
Essential criteria
- Valid Drivers licence
- White Card
- Intermediate skills in all Microsoft Office applications
- At least 5 years’ experience in construction, maintenance, skilled trades or property project management
- Demonstrated ability to apply technical knowledge and sound judgement to assess building works, identify defects, manage contractors and support asset related programs
- Experience working autonomously in a field based role, managing competing priorities and meeting agreed timeframes
- Demonstrated problem solving capability and ability to respond appropriately to issues identified on site
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across teams and engage professionally with tenants, contractors and internal stakeholders
Desirable criteria
- Previous licenced builder
- Trade Certificate IV or equivalent
- Experience using CHISORS (Community Housing Industry Schedule of Rates)
- Experience in contract or supplier management, including monitoring performance and compliance
- Demonstrated stakeholder engagement experience within housing, construction or asset management environments
They also need to be willing to obtain a Criminal Record Check.
