About the Role:
The Community and Families Caseworker will be responsible for delivering culturally safe, trauma informed, strengths based early intervention services under the CAFS Community Strengthening and Wellbeing and Safety program activities. The role works alongside Aboriginal children, young people, families and communities to strengthen community connection, wellbeing and cultural identity, reduce risk factors associated with child abuse, neglect and family violence, and build family capacity, safety and self-determination.
The key objectives of the role include:
- Plan and deliver community based activities, groups, workshops and events that strengthen cultural identity, connection, belonging and wellbeing.
- Support Indigenous community engagement and healing activities that promote social and emotional wellbeing and cultural renewal.
- Work in authentic partnership with community members, Elders and local leaders, supporting community led priorities.
- Identify emerging community needs and contribute to place based, preventative responses
- Use community development approaches that build protective factors at individual, family and community levels
- Provide targeted, intensive and flexible support to children, young people and families experiencing vulnerability.
- Undertake strengths based, family led assessments, including safety planning where family violence is present.
- Deliver wraparound case management, addressing safety, health, education, economic, cultural and community needs.
- Recognise and respond to children and young people as victim survivors in their own right.
- Support parents and carers to build positive parenting capacity, confidence and wellbeing.
- Deliver or facilitate individualised youth support, prioritising young people’s voice, autonomy and participation.
Essential Criteria:
- Confirmation of Aboriginality.
- Qualifications in Community Services, Aboriginal Health, Social Work, Youth Work, Family Wellbeing or related field (or willingness to obtain).
- Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal children, young people, families and communities.
- Experience delivering trauma informed, culturally safe, strengths based practice.
- Strong understanding of family violence, child safety and early intervention.
- Sound knowledge of Aboriginal social and emotional wellbeing.
- High level written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work flexibly across community and outreach settings
- Ability to hold all relevant security clearances including National Police Check and Working with Children clearance.
- Current valid Driver’s license, minimum of Class “C” or equivalent.
