Senior Built Heritage Consultant

Team: NSW Heritage • New South Wales, Australia • Full-time

Description

About the role

Biosis Australia is growing, and we’d love you to be part of it!

We are seeking a Senior Built Heritage Consultant to join our NSW team, where you will apply your expertise to a diverse range of projects. In this role, you will report to the Manager – Heritage (NSW) and play an active part in project delivery through your involvement in project teams, project management, site investigation, and client liaison.

A key part of the position involves providing technical guidance to junior consultants, as well as leading and developing project teams. You will help new team members understand our work, support them in building capability, and contribute to identifying opportunities, developing new work, and winning projects.

You may be based in any of our NSW offices, and you will have the opportunity to lead and contribute to a wide variety of projects across the state.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Communicate with relevant authorities, communities, clients, landowners, and the public on assigned projects.
  • Prepare high quality reports and provide technical built heritage advice.
  • Deliver projects on time, within budget, and aligned with client expectations while upholding Biosis’ high standards.
  • Interpret current regulatory requirements, assess their impact on project work, and explain these implications to clients.
  • Conduct historical research and analysis to support built heritage assessments.
  • Lead junior consultants, review their work, and mentor them in developing technical and professional skills.
  • Support team development by helping junior staff understand Biosis’ work and internal processes.
  • Advise the management team on project opportunities and identify potential work to help develop and win new projects.

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Hold a tertiary qualification in Planning, Heritage, Architecture, or a related discipline.
  • 5-10 years of experience working in the heritage sector.
  • Have experience in consulting, ideally within built heritage or related fields.
  • You must have full working rights in Australia to be considered for this role.
  • Experience in architectural focused heritage work, rather than archaeological work
  • Exceptional communication skills with strong written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to communicate technical information effectively.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment and build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Valid Australian driver’s licence.
