Service Technician (HVAC / Fire)

Amos Team • Newcastle, New South Wales 2300, Australia • Full-time

Description

About this opportunity

As the fire side of our business continues to grow, we’re seeking a skilled commercial technician to join our team in a genuinely dual and versatile role supporting both fire and HVAC operations. This position has been designed to reflect the true nature of the work and the direction the business is heading.

While the primary focus of the role sits within the fire division, the successful candidate will play an important part in supporting the broader HVAC side of the business as required. Day to day, this will include inspection, testing, repairs and installations of mechanical fire systems, while also assisting with HVAC servicing, installation and repair works during peak periods or where additional support is needed. This ensures you remain actively involved across both disciplines and part of a wider mechanical team.

You will be exposed to a high calibre and diverse portfolio of commercial clients, including hospitals, schools, shopping centres, government buildings and high-rise residential apartments. These environments offer variety, responsibility and the opportunity to work on large, complex systems under strict compliance and safety requirements.

This role is well suited to someone who enjoys variety, values teamwork, and is looking for long-term development across both fire and HVAC. You’ll gain hands-on experience across critical life safety systems while continuing to build and maintain your HVAC skillset, supporting the ongoing growth of both divisions of the business.

You can expect to:

  • Carry out inspection, testing, maintenance, repairs and installations of mechanical fire systems
  • Work on systems including smoke exhaust, stair pressurisation, fire and smoke dampers, and mechanical shutdown systems
  • Support HVAC servicing, installation and repair works as required
  • Read and interpret drawings, schematics, fire matrices and cause-and-effect documentation
  • Assist with testing, commissioning and compliance-related inspections
  • Liaise professionally with clients, contractors and internal teams
  • Represent the business safely and professionally across a variety of commercial sites

We’re Looking For

Essential:

  • Trade‑qualified technician with a commercial HVAC background
  • Strong understanding of commercial mechanical systems (supply air, exhaust, ventilation, air conditioning)
  • Sound technical and fault‑finding ability
  • Basic knowledge of electrical systems, controls, relays, and mechanical operations
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and documentation
  • Willingness to learn and progress into fire systems and compliance
  • Reliable work ethic, good presentation, and a hands‑on mindset
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Highly Regarded:

  • Exposure to fire and smoke systems (smoke exhaust, stair pressurisation, fire/smoke dampers)
  • Experience with fire damper installations
  • Exposure to BMS or commercial building control systems
  • Experience with testing, commissioning, or compliance inspections
  • Mechanical FSA accreditation
