Experienced Underground Projects Crew

Description

Role Purpose

To safely execute underground project and services work to support mine infrastructure and operational readiness, including ventilation, dewatering, services installation/repairs, clean-ups, and construction tasks as directed.

Key Responsibilities

Safety & Compliance

Work in accordance with site HSEC requirements, SOPs, SWMS/JHA processes, and permit systems

Complete Take 5/JHA and continuously reassess hazards (ground conditions, water, traffic, lifting, stored energy)

Maintain clear radio communications, follow underground traffic rules, and comply with exclusion zones

Participate in toolbox talks, safety interactions, hazard reporting, and incident investigations as required

Underground Projects & Services Work

Ventilation work (site dependent):

Install and maintain vent ducting/vent bags

Install/repair vent doors, curtains, stoppings (as required)

Maintain airflow controls and report ventilation issues promptly

Services installation and maintenance:

Assist with installation/repair of air and water lines (including poly pipe, fittings, valves)

Assist with cable management, bunding, and protection of services (within competency and authorisation)

Dewatering and water management:

Install/move pumps and lines, maintain sumps, manage water flow and clean-outs

Identify and report blockages, leaks, and poor drainage areas

Civil/construction support (site dependent):

Formwork/prep support, minor concrete works, grout/installation prep, barricading and signage

Housekeeping and rehab:

Maintain clean and safe travelways and work areas

Spillage management, scaling/clean-up support (within site rules and competency)

Assist with rehab tasks as directed

Tools, Equipment & Materials Handling

Use hand tools and small plant safely (within competency)

Assist with transport of materials underground and safe staging in designated areas

Conduct pre-start checks on any assigned equipment and report defects immediately

Communication & Reporting

Provide clear handovers between shifts (progress, hazards, incomplete works, issues)

Complete required documentation: pre-starts, take 5/JHAs, permits, maintenance requests, timesheets

4) Skills, Experience & Competencies

Essential

Underground mining experience (projects crew/service crew/utility preferred)

Strong understanding of underground hazards: mobile equipment interaction, ground conditions, water, ventilation

Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a crew under supervision

Physically fit for manual handling and underground conditions

Desirable (site dependent)

Vent installation experience (ducting, doors, stoppings)

Dewatering experience (pump installs, lines, sumps)

Services/reticulation experience (poly, valves, air/water)

Tickets such as: Forklift, EWP, Working at Heights, Confined Space, Dogging/Rigging, HR/HC (as required)

5) Qualifications / Checks (site dependent)

Current driver’s licence

National Police Clearance (if required)

Ability to pass medical and drug & alcohol screening

Site inductions and verification of competency (VOC) where applicable

Working Conditions

Underground environment: heat, dust, water, noise, low visibility, confined spaces

Day/night shift work and fatigue management requirements

Manual handling and physical work required

Performance Indicators

Consistent compliance with safety systems and permit requirements

Quality of project work completed to supervisor/site standards

Proactive hazard and defect reporting

Reliable attendance, strong teamwork, and professional conduct
