About the Role
We are seeking experienced Underground Longhole Operators to join our production team. You will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of underground production drilling equipment to achieve daily and weekly drilling targets while maintaining high safety and quality standards.
This role suits operators who take pride in accurate drilling, clean setup, good communication, and getting metres without cutting corners.
Key Responsibilities
Operate underground longhole production drill rigs (e.g., Sandvik DL/RH series, Epiroc Simba/ITH, or similar).
Drill to agreed patterns and designs in line with the short-term mine plan.
Accurately set up rings, collar correctly, and drill to required line, grade, depth, and burden/spacing.
Complete pre-starts, inspections, and routine servicing (greasing, checking consumables, hoses, steels, etc.).
Identify and report ground conditions, hazards, and equipment defects immediately.
Maintain drill areas to a high standard (good housekeeping, bunding where required, and managing services).
Work with Survey, Charge-Up, Supervisors, and Geology to ensure pattern compliance and quality outcomes.
Complete all required documentation: pre-starts, hazard reports, defect reports, drill logs, and shift reports.
Follow site SHMS, isolation/lockout procedures, and all relevant SOPs/JHAs.
Required Skills & Experience
Proven experience operating underground longhole production drills.
Strong understanding of:
ring setup and pattern accuracy
drill steels and consumables
ground awareness and hazard identification
dealing with poor ground / water / difficult conditions
Ability to work independently and as part of a production team.
Good communication and shift handover discipline.
Licences & Qualifications (Essential)
Current National Police Clearance (or willingness to obtain)
Valid Driver’s Licence
Underground induction / relevant site competencies (or ability to obtain)
Ability to pass a pre-employment medical + drug & alcohol
Highly Regarded
Previous experience with Sandvik / Epiroc longhole rigs specifically
First Aid / High Risk tickets (WP, FL, CN, DG etc. depending on site)
Experience in tight production environments with strict QA/QC requirements
Exposure to autonomous or telemetry drilling systems (where applicable)
