Senior Account Executive – Construction | Ascot Vale, Melbourne
Reports to: State Executive/Broking Manager
May supervise: Account Managers/Admin Assistants
Location: Ascot Vale, Melbourne
About the Role
This role is ideal for a technically strong broker who
enjoys managing complex accounts, building relationships, and supporting
clients across the full lifecycle of their insurance program. You will work
closely with the Broking Manager and senior leadership team, taking ownership
of a portfolio while contributing to placement strategy, client retention, and
new business activity.
You will be a trusted advisor to builders, developers,
subcontractors, engineers, project managers, and related construction
professionals.
Key Responsibilities
Client & Portfolio Management
- Manage a portfolio of construction clients, delivering high‑quality service and proactive engagement.
- Conduct annual reviews, risk assessments, and coverage analysis.
- Provide clear advice on policy structures, limits, deductibles, and risk mitigation strategies.
- Maintain strong client relationships through regular communication and exceptional service delivery.
Technical Broking & Placement
- Interpret construction contracts and insurance clauses to identify obligations, exposures, and coverage requirements.
- Prepare underwriting submissions and negotiate terms with insurers across Contract Works/CAR, Liability, Plant & Equipment, Motor Fleet, and related lines.
- Support the development and execution of renewal strategies, ensuring timely and accurate placement.
- Maintain accurate documentation, file notes, and compliance records.
Market Engagement
- Build and maintain strong relationships with insurers and underwriting partners.
- Stay informed on market trends, underwriting appetite, and emerging construction risks.
- Work collaboratively with insurers to secure competitive and tailored solutions for clients.
New Business Development
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities within the construction sector.
- Support tender responses, proposals, and presentations.
- Leverage referral networks including accountants, lawyers, financiers, and industry bodies.
Claims Support
- Assist clients with claims lodgement, strategy, and advocacy.
- Liaise with insurers, loss adjusters, and legal advisors to support timely and effective outcomes.
Team Collaboration & Leadership
- Provide guidance and support to Account Managers and Administration Assistants.
- Share technical knowledge and contribute to the development of team capability.
Compliance & Professional Standards
- Ensure compliance with ASIC, AFSL, and internal governance requirements.
- Meet CPD requirements and uphold internal compliance procedures.
- Uphold high standards of accuracy, professionalism, and ethical conduct.
About You
You will thrive in this role if you bring:
- 5+ years’ experience in general insurance broking, ideally with exposure to construction clients.
- Tier 1 Insurance Broking qualification (RG146 compliant).
- Strong technical capability across construction and commercial insurance lines.
- Proven ability to manage complex accounts and negotiate effectively with insurers.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Strong commercial acumen, analytical thinking, and attention to detail.
- A proactive, solutions‑focused mindset and the ability to work independently.
- Experience in mentoring or supporting junior brokers (desirable).
