Join AVI’s Asia Archipelago Team! We’re currently looking for a Program Officer to support the operations of the Australian Volunteers program in Timor-Leste.
AVI supports the implementation of the Australian Volunteers Program on behalf of the Australian Government. The Australian Volunteers Program supports skilled Australian volunteers to work alongside organisations to sustainably build the capacity of people, organisations and communities in various countries across the Pacific, Asia and Africa.
The Program Officer for Partnership Engagement will strengthen the delivery and impact of the Australian Volunteers Program in Timor-Leste. This role is central to building and maintaining effective partnerships, ensuring meaningful volunteer assignments, and supporting volunteers’
safe and successful participation.
Position Requirements
Knowledge and Experience

Cross-Cultural Awareness. Demonstrated understanding of Timorese cultural contexts and the challenges faced by foreign nationals working in Timor-Leste, with the ability to adapt approaches to ensure effective collaboration.

Volunteer Assignment Development. Proven experience in designing and managing capacity-building initiatives or volunteer assignments that align with local priorities and contribute to sustainable development outcomes.

Partnership Engagement. Experience in building and maintaining strong, respectful, and productive relationships with diverse stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, community organisations, and private sector partners.

International Development Context. Familiarity with the principles of international development and experience working with international organisations in Timor-Leste or similar contexts.

Risk Management. Understanding of safety and security risks related to foreign nationals living and working overseas and demonstrated ability to apply appropriate risk management strategies.

Language Skills. Fluency in both written and spoken English and Tetum, with the ability to translate and prepare reports, proposals, and other program documentation.
