Description

Ascent is an engineering consultancy that supports the Australian Defence Force by supplying them with expert engineering contractors, specialising in Guided Weapons and Explosive Ordnance.

(Yes, it actually IS rocket science!)

Here is what you will typically be working on:

Bookkeeping & Payroll Duties

  • Assisting with accounts payable and receivable
  • Bank, credit card and expense reconciliations
  • Managing Cost Centres and Budgets
  • Supporting external accountants with reporting and compliance
  • Maintaining accurate financial records using Xero

Office & Admin Support

  • General administration and document wrangling
  • Travel and event logistics support
  • Supporting procurement and supplier liaison
  • Keeping our digital (and physical) filing cabinets in top shape
  • Helping keep our culture positive, efficient, and just a little bit quirky
  • Keeping the office stocked, tidy and humming along

The skills and qualities we are looking for are:

  • Cert IV in Bookkeeping or similar (highly regarded)
  • Xero experience—comfortable navigating accounts, payroll, reconciliations, etc
  • Employment Hero experience—particularly for HR admin and payroll
  • At least 2 years’ experience in bookkeeping, office admin, or office management
  • Working knowledge of Australian payroll, superannuation, and ATO reporting requirements
  • High attention to detail and comfort working with confidential info
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (especially Excel and Outlook)
  • Ability to juggle competing priorities and manage your own time effectively
  • Confidence to work both autonomously and as part of a team
  • Experience supporting a distributed or remote team
  • Understanding of the Defence industry or compliance-heavy sectors
  • A love of labelling things, colour-coded spreadsheets, or a tidy inbox (we see you 👀)

PPS – The fine print – things you should know:

  • The role is subject to a 6-month probation period
  • The recruitment process will potentially include a short quiz, test or assignment
  • You will have to be able to supply at least 2 contactable, relevant references as part of your application
  • You will have to be able to work from our fabulous office space in Lot Fourteen, Adelaide

  • Due to the classified nature of the work we perform a Defence Security Clearance and eligibility to access International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) controlled equipment and data is mandatory.
