Join a growing organisation delivering complex projects across renewable energy. We are seeking an experienced HSE Specialist to support the Head of Risk & Safety in strengthening health, safety and risk management across Ark Energy’s projects and operations.
The Role
Reporting directly to the Head of Risk & Safety, HSE Specialist will join Ark Energy in full time permanent capacity. With the option to be based in either our Brisbane or Sydney offices, this role will require travel to other Ark offices and project sites at times. This is a hands-on advisory role with a strong focus on ISO-aligned management systems, operational risk and continuous improvement. Working closely with leaders and project teams, you will help embed practical, fit-for-purpose safety and risk frameworks that support safe, compliant and high-performing operations.
Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Support the Head of Risk & Safety by providing day-to-day technical advice across health, safety, risk, emergency and business continuity matters.
- Assist with the development, implementation and maintenance of risk and safety management frameworks across all project lifecycle stages.
- Support the preparation of safety cases, facilitation of HAZOPs, and the development and maintenance of project and operational risk registers.
- Coordinate incident notification, investigation and corrective actions, including root cause analysis and close-out tracking.
- Support the development, implementation and ongoing maintenance of the Safety Management System (ISO 45001) and Risk Management System (ISO 31000).
- Contribute to ISO accreditation activities, including internal audits and readiness assessments.
- Partner with project teams, operations and leaders to provide practical, risk-based advice.
- Support safety reporting, KPI development, dashboards and continuous improvement initiatives.
About You
With a minimum of 7 years’ experience in WHS and/or risk leadership roles, you are a capable and confident safety professional who enjoys working across both projects and operations. You bring a practical mindset, strong technical grounding and the ability to influence at all levels of the business.
To help you succeed in this role, you will have:
- A tertiary qualification in WHS or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience working with ISO-accredited management systems, particularly ISO 45001 and ISO 31000.
- Strong knowledge of Australian WHS legislation, standards and codes of practice.
- Proven incident investigation and risk assessment capability.
- Experience within energy, renewables or major infrastructure environments (highly desirable), with exposure to critical assets, SoCI legislation or sustainability frameworks considered an advantage.
