Alpine MDF Industries is a leading wood processing facility based in Wangaratta, North East Victoria. We manufacture and distribute MDF products both nationally and internationally, providing stable employment for over 140 local workers.
Our primary focus is the production of Medium Density Fibreboard (MDF), widely used in the construction and related industries. In addition to our core manufacturing operations, we operate an
on-site re-manufacturing facility, enhancing raw MDF into high-quality building products. These include pre-painted skirting boards, architraves, door and window components, and decorative wall lining panels.
About the role
We are currently seeking a full-time 1st Year Apprentice Wood Machinist to join our team. In this role, you will undertake both on-site and off-site training to develop the technical skills required for the day-to-day setup and operation of moulding and sawing machinery used in the production of our MDF mouldings, VJ lining boards, and other moulded products as required.
The position requires the ability to work a mixture of shift patterns, including, day, afternoon and night shifts across Monday – Friday.
- 3-week Rotating Shift Roster Cycle
- No weekend or Public Holiday work
- Shift Allowance
- Overtime available
Night 11:00pm – 7:06am Start 11pm Sunday, Finish 7:06am Friday
Afternoon 3pm-11:06pm Start 3pm Monday, Finish 11:06pm Friday
Day 7am-3:06pm Start 7am Monday, Finish 3:06pm Friday
Responsibilities include but not limited to:
- Completing Certificate III coursework;
- Operating and maintaining CNC and wood machining equipment;
- Cutting, edging, drilling, and processing boards to exact specifications;
- Following digital plans, software outputs, and technical drawings;
- Inspecting products for quality and accuracy;
- Assisting with production of custom mouldings;
- Maintaining a clean, organised, and safe workshop;
- Following WHS procedures and safe work practices.

- Reliable, punctual, and demonstrates a strong work ethic;
- Good teamwork and communication skills;
- Safety-conscious, with the ability to follow procedures and remain aware of workplace hazards for yourself and others;
- Physically fit and capable of manually handling raw materials;
- Able to work rotating shifts;
- Hold a current driver’s licence, with reliable transport;
- Willing to undergo a pre-employment medical, including drug and alcohol testing.
