Summary:

The Speech Pathologist is responsible for diagnosing, treating, and preventing speech, language, and swallowing disorders in patients. They work collaboratively in a mobile environment within the community with other healthcare professionals to improve patients’ communication abilities and articulate fluency.

Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate and diagnose communication and swallowing disorders in patients
  • Develop treatment plans and maintain detailed records of progress and treatment outcomes
  • Provide individual or group therapy to patients
  • Train family members, caregivers, and other healthcare professionals on ways to support patients’ communication development and care
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to develop comprehensive care plans for patients
  • Design and provide augmentative and alternative communication devices to patients
  • Assess and treat patients with voice disorders
  • Develop and implement programs to prevent communication and swallowing disorders
  • Participate in interdisciplinary clinical teams and conduct research
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records and documentation of patient care

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in speech-language pathology or related healthcare fields
  • Current license to practice as a Speech Pathologist
  • Ability to conduct thorough evaluations, make accurate diagnoses, and develop effective treatment plans
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work with patients of all ages and diverse cultural backgrounds
  • Willingness to work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals
  • Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and multitasking skills
  • Registration with the relevant professional body or association is essential.
