Position Overview
The Strategy, M&A & FP&A Manager, based in Brisbane with All Energy Contracting (AEC), an OCU Group company, reports to the Chief Executive Officer with a dotted line to Group M&A and Group Finance teams in the UK. This hands-on, senior role spans acquisitive growth, strategy, and financial planning, supporting AEC and the wider OCU Group by identifying and evaluating acquisition opportunities, developing market and competitor intelligence across Australia and Asia-Pacific, and strengthening financial planning, analysis, and modelling across the business. The position provides significant exposure to senior leadership locally and internationally, offering the opportunity to influence strategic decisions and contribute directly to the growth of a PE-backed, high-growth energy business.
Key Responsibilities
- M&A and Investment Support
- Identify, screen and research potential acquisition targets aligned with AEC and OCU strategic priorities
- Build and manage a structured M&A pipeline, including market mapping, longlists, shortlists, and initial investment cases
- Support early-stage target engagement, including background research, financial analysis, and preparation of briefing materials
- Assist with early-stage due diligence, including commercial, financial, operational, and strategic reviews
- Prepare investment papers, deal review materials, and presentations for leadership and senior stakeholders
- Coordinate with Group M&A, external advisers, and internal stakeholders
FP&A and Financial Planning
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning activities
- Build financial models for business cases, investments, acquisitions, and strategic initiatives
- Analyse project, contract, and portfolio performance to inform management decision-making
- Conduct scenario and sensitivity analysis linked to growth plans and M&A activity
- Collaborate with AEC Finance and Group Finance to ensure consistency in reporting and assumptions.
Strategy and Market Analysis
- Conduct market and competitor analysis across Australia and Asia-Pacific
- Track industry trends in energy, renewables, regulated power, infrastructure, and adjacent markets
- Support the development of growth strategies, including organic growth initiatives, new market entry, and capability expansion
- Prepare clear, concise strategy papers and insight packs for leadership discussions
- Required Skills and Experience
- Strong analytical and commercial capability across strategy, corporate finance, FP&A, and M&A
- Experience in energy, infrastructure, construction, or engineering is advantageous but not essential
- Advanced financial modelling and data analysis skills, with the ability to turn numbers into actionable insight
- Structured thinker with strong research, writing, and presentation skills
- Comfortable working with multiple stakeholders in a matrix environment
- High levels of discretion and professionalism when handling confidential information
- Accounting or finance qualification (CA, CPA, ACCA, CIMA, or ACA) preferred but not essential if experience is strong.
