Assistant Vineyard Manager

Agnew Wines is an established and growing family-owned wine business located in the heart of the Hunter Valley wine district, producing wines under the Audrey Wilkinson, Poole’s Rock and Cockfighter’s Ghost labels.

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated individual to join our team as the Assistant Vineyard Manager. Reporting to the Vineyard Manager, this hands-on position requires experience in a variety of vineyard activities as well as the management of staff and daily scheduling, maintenance of the vineyard and associated plant and forward planning for seasonal requirements.

Our ideal candidate will be self-motivated with practical experience in vineyard operations. They will have good communication skills as well as the capacity to maintain good working relationships with staff, suppliers and contractors.

Experience in viticulture or horticulture are essential attributes to meet the requirements of this role. Tertiary qualifications are not essential however would be highly regarded. A good mechanical aptitude would also be advantageous.

This role is full time that will require flexibility outside of ordinary hours in particular, during peak periods and vintage.

Qualifications and Experience:

Essential:

• Self-motivated and reliable

• High level communication

• Current C class licence

• Viticultural or horticultural experience

• Excellent knowledge of vineyard equipment and machinery

• Experience in managing and mentoring a small team

• Tractor operations

• Computer skills including Word and Excel

Preferred:

• MR licence

• Forklift licence

• Harvest operations

• Chemcert AQF3 qualification

Responsibilities:

• Carry out the day-to-day vineyard operations

• Train, mentor and supervise vineyard employees

• Operate machinery, including tractors, sprayers, harvesters etc competently.

• Maintain and operate all plant and machinery in accordance with safe operating procedures and policies

• Vineyard development and management

• Pest and disease control

• Hand picking and pruning

• Harvest management

• Soil management

• Chemical management and application

• Employee and contractor supervision

• Irrigation / fertigation planning and repair

• Promote high level safety culture

• Implement and adhere to WHS on site
