The Gig

Ace Hotel Sydney is on the lookout for a Chief Engineer to lead the performance, safety, and long-term sustainability of our beautiful historic, 18-storey hotel — from guest rooms to restaurants, bars, and everything in between. This is a pivotal leadership role responsible for keeping the building running flawlessly while supporting an exceptional guest experience behind the scenes.

You’ll lead and inspire the Engineering team of four, driving a proactive maintenance culture and ensuring all systems across mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and fire safety are operating efficiently and in line with compliance standards. From managing day-to-day operations and departmental budgets to delivering large-scale capital works and renovations, you’ll balance hands-on leadership with strategic oversight.

Reporting into the General Manager, you’ll play a key role in shaping the hotel’s operational success — championing energy efficiency, sustainability initiatives, and continuous improvement across the property. As the WHS Officer, you’ll also lead safety practices across the business, ensuring strong systems, compliance, and a culture of accountability at every level.

About you

  • A hands-on leader with a solid technical background
  • Experience managing engineering or facilities in a complex environment, ideally within hotels or multi-outlet spaces
  • Commercially savvy and comfortable managing budgets, projects, and planning ahead
  • A natural problem solver who stays calm under pressure and takes pride in well-maintained, safe environments
  • A strong communicator who builds great working relationships across teams and with external partners
  • Proactive and solutions-focused, always looking for ways to improve how things run
  • In depth knowledge of WHS requirements, with a genuine commitment to safety
  • Around 4–5 years’ experience in engineering or facilities management
  • Relevant engineering qualification or equivalent experience
  • Australian citizenship or permanent residency required
