Senior Mining Engineer

The Senior Mining Engineer is responsible for developing and optimising, value-driven mine plans that bridge the gap between short-term production schedules and the Life of Mine (LOM) strategy. The role ensures that production targets are achievable, economically optimised, and aligned with the site’s operational and strategic objectives. The position requires close collaboration with geology, survey, processing, and operations teams to ensure seamless execution of mine plans and continuous improvement in operations, planning accuracy and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Prepare pit designs, phase development, waste dump layouts, and haul road designs consistent with geotechnical and operational constraints and project requirements.
  • Conduct optimisation studies to improve productivity, cost efficiency, and resource utilisation.
  • Monitor performance against plan and provide variance analysis and corrective recommendations.
  • Ability to generate monthly and quarterly production schedules, forecasts, and reconciliations aligned with life-of-mine and operational requirements.
  • Contribute to budget and forecast updates through production planning, cost estimation, and scheduling inputs.
  • Coordinate with geology, survey, and processing to ensure accuracy of ore block models, dig plans, and stockpile management.
  • Maintain planning databases, design files, and documentation in line with governance and version control standards.
  • Ensure all mine plans are compliant with safety, environmental, and statutory requirements.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or related discipline.
  • Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in open pit mine planning, preferably in gold or hard rock mining.
  • Proficiency in mine planning and design software (e.g., Deswik, Surpac, or Vulcan).
  • Strong understanding of scheduling, and operational integration
  • Experience with reconciliation, reporting, and mine budgeting processes.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
