Purpose of Role
The Club Development Ambassador – FNG (CDA FNG) is a key technical role responsible for implementing Football Queensland’s coach education, talent identification, and club development strategies within the Far North & Gulf Region. Based in Cairns, the successful candidate will support the delivery of quality football outcomes across regional clubs, and programs including the FQ Academy (Development and Advanced tiers), and assist in fostering a high-performance culture aligned with the organisation’s strategic objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
The successful applicant will be based in Cairns and will take a leading role to deliver improved technical services for clubs in the FNG Region including coach and talent identification, oversee coach development to increase the technical knowledge of coaches in the club and regional programs (FQ Academy Advanced and Development level).
The CDA FNG will also play an integral part in the implementation of other club development initiatives in regional Queensland. FQ is committed to growing the sport and offers better opportunities for community and aspirational coaches and players. The principal areas of the role:
Coach and Club Development
- Plan, schedule, and implement club development strategies tailored to regional needs.
- Assess club coaching capacity and design plans to build capacity across community and advanced levels.
- Identify, support, and upskill coaches within clubs and regional programs.
- Deliver formal and informal coach development opportunities, including:
- Coach education workshops
- Live assessments and mentoring
- Post-course follow-up sessions
- Informal knowledge-sharing initiatives
- Broaden the network of coach developers across the region.
- Lead delivery of FA-accredited coach education programs (commensurate with qualifications).
Talent Development
- Manage and oversee regional talent development programs including FQ Academy (U9 – U16).
- Drive participation and achieve performance and financial targets for regional programs.
- Support Football Queensland’s vision for regional High Performance Centre.
- Coordinate regional representation in talent programs, including women’s and girls’ pathways.
Technical Program Oversight
- Maintain quality control and consistency in Football Queensland’s programs and services.
- Conduct technical assessments and contribute to the player ID process in line with Football Queensland’s policies.
- Collaborate with the Technical Coaching Staff, and QAS Academy Manager to review pathways and evaluate progress against KPIs.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Establish and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders including club officials, administrators, and coaches.
- Promote alignment with Football Queensland’s philosophy and technical direction at all levels of the game.
- Assist with operational delivery of Football Queensland’s events (e.g. match days, State and Regional Carnivals, representative trials).

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Behaviour Required
- AFC B or A Diploma in football coaching or Football Australia recognized equivalent.
- FA coach educator tutor experience (advanced instructor qualification is an advantage) or Teaching experience.
- Work experience in a regional environment.
- Clear understanding of FA’s coach education system from a technical and administrative perspective.
- Football knowledge and playing/coaching experience.
- Experience working in community and talented player/coach development
- Experience in the establishment and ongoing management of coach/athlete development programs
- Demonstrated organizational and administrative skills with the ability to plan, coordinate and execute tasks and projects through to completion whilst meeting deadlines, and balancing competing demands.
- Ability to work with limited direction to initiate procedures
- Adaptability, enthusiasm, and motivation with a “can do” attitude
- Can think strategically and encourage stakeholder collaboration
- High-level communication skills, particularly presentation skills and the ability to teach and inspire others
- Ability to mentor technical staff/coaches, and provide them with leadership and direction
Desirable
- Sports Management / Physical Education or other sport-related tertiary/university degree
- Experience in working with volunteers

- Current First Aid Certificate
- Current and valid driver’s license
