Wunan Health & Well-Being Centre is a multi-disciplinary and accredited private medical practice that serves the East Kimberley region. Our team of dedicated and experienced medical practitioners provide high-quality medical care to the local community and to the many visitors to our magnificent region. Conveniently located in the town centre of Kununurra in a brand new purpose-built facility, Wunan Health & Well-Being Centre is proudly owned and operated by Wunan Foundation, an East Kimberley Aboriginal development organisation.

The GP Clinic provides a broad scope of medical and nursing services such as skin checks and procedures, chronic disease management, pre-employment medicals, shared antenatal care, women’s health, men’s health, Aboriginal health checks and palliative care support. The GP clinic also works alongside their other Wunan Health services being headspace Kununurra and KWIC – Kununurra Withdrawal Intervention Centre – a new six bed Alcohol and other Drug withdrawal Program.

Wunan Health is looking for an experienced full-time Practice Nurse to join across the teams and fulfil a pivotal role.

THE POSITION

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated individual to fill the role of Experienced Practice Nurse (RN), ensuring the ongoing provision of the highest standards of care to our patients through the provision of clinical services and health education.

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND ATTRIBUTES

Successful applicant must have a current unconditional registration with AHPRA and have a minimum of 3 years’ experience as a Registered Nurse, with General Practice or AMS experience being highly desired.

  • Demonstrated capacity to work in a collaborative manner with staff
  • Excellent oral and interpersonal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to problem solve issues on a day-to-day basis
  • Training in or experience with alcohol and other drug services
  • Completion of Understanding Vaccines and the National Immunisation Program (mandatory)
  • Can supervise, direct and guide nursing team members; incl Aboriginal Health Workers (AHW) and students to deliver patient care
  • Chronic Disease management experience and understanding of GPCCMPs
  • Wound management
  • Venepuncture, Cannulation and Iron infusions
  • Assisting doctors with minor surgical procedures e.g. dressing, excisions
  • Diagnostic procedures e.g. Blood pressure monitoring, ECG, Spirometry 
  • Stock management and cold chain management
  • Collecting specimens for drugs of abuse
  • Understanding of Indigenous Health
  • Provide evidenced based nursing care
  • Commitment to ongoing participation in education and professional development

SELECTION CRITERIA

Your application must include answers to the following questions:

* Are you currently registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)?

* Have you completed an approved immunisation training program?

* Have you had Practice nursing/AHP experience in the past?

* Have you had training in or experience with alcohol and other drug services?

* Explain how you think your previous nursing/AHP experience will assist you in a practice nurse position.

* How would you rate your understanding of indigenous health issues?
