Most businesses treat performance culture as a filter. The best environments do the opposite. They don’t extract performance from people, they build it into them, and they give people a reason to stay.

The panel is the proof. These are people who didn’t just survive elite sport, they were built by it. Which leaves one question for every business owner in the room: Am I building people good enough, and valued enough, that they don’t need a reason to leave? For burnout, boredom, or a train to Paddington.

Unapologetically Building brings business owners together with the players, coaches and founders who have built performance cultures from the inside. One conversation on what actually decides whether people stay: standards without burnout, investing in people (even if they might leave) and holding on to your identity when growth pulls you in different directions.

It’s a fitting story for Bristol to tell. A city that does things on its own terms, from a top-secret street artist to an animation studio that wasn’t chicken and didn’t run. The people on this panel are cut from the same cloth. They built here, stayed here, and proved you don’t have to leave to go further.
