Western NSW Community Legal Centre Inc. (WNSWCLC) is seeking a compassionate and committed Domestic Violence Solicitor to join our Western Women’s Legal Support (WWLS) team. This is an integral role supporting women and children experiencing domestic and family violence through trauma-informed legal services, advocacy, and outreach. You will deliver high-quality legal advice, representation, and education across regional and remote communities in Western NSW.

Western NSW Community Legal Centre (WNSWCLC) is a not-for-profit organisation working to improve access to justice for people facing disadvantage across the region. We provide free legal advice, representation, referrals, and community education to empower and support our communities. The specialist unit, Western Women’s Legal Support (WWLS), delivers trauma-informed, culturally safe support to women and children affected by domestic and family violence.

ABOUT THE ROLE

As the Domestic Violence Solicitor, you will work closely with a multidisciplinary team to support victim-survivors of domestic and family violence. Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing legal advice and representation in family law, AVOs, victims’ support, and related areas.
  • Assisting clients through a trauma-informed, culturally safe, and client-centred approach.
  • Appearing in court and at mediations, subject to supervision and internal approval.
  • Participating in regional outreach trips (including overnight stays) to deliver legal services to rural and remote communities.
  • Collaborating with caseworkers and external agencies to address non-legal needs through holistic support.
  • Contributing to systemic advocacy through law reform and policy submissions.
  • Developing and delivering community legal education sessions to build community awareness and resilience.
  • Maintaining accurate, timely, and compliant casework and legal records.

ABOUT YOU We are looking for a solicitor who is passionate about access to justice and supporting women experiencing domestic and family violence. You will have:

  • A Bachelor of Laws (LLB) and eligibility (or current holding) of a NSW practising certificate.
  • Demonstrated commitment to social justice, particularly for women, First Nations communities, and people experiencing systemic disadvantage.
  • Knowledge and experience in family law, domestic violence, and related legal areas.
  • Capacity to work holistically with clients, including sensitivity to trauma and intersectional needs.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including plain language legal advice.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary, collaborative team.
  • Competence using legal case management systems and digital tools.
  • A current NSW Driver’s Licence and willingness to travel for outreach, including overnight stays.
  • Experience working in community legal centres, women’s services, or private firms in relevant practice areas (desirable).

REMUNERATION AND BENEFITS

WNSWCLC also engages in community legal education to inform individuals about their legal rights and responsibilities, and participates in law reform activities to address systemic issues affecting our clients. We advise using compassion, understanding, and a non-judgmental approach, ensuring that clients are supported in a manner that acknowledges their personal circumstances and empowers them to make informed decisions about their lives.
