The Role:
The Therapist/Counsellor support Footsteps Community Services’ (FCS) clients through the delivery of contemporary, evidence based therapeutic interventions and support services. One of the key aspects of the role is to view clients beyond the labelled condition, thus creating an opportunity for growth by turning DISABILITY into ABILITY.
A day in this role may include:
• Provide professional counselling to children, young people, adults, and their families.
• Provide support and training to clients and stakeholders.
• Conduct assessments with clients at the beginning and completion of therapy.
• Maintain accurate and timely recordings of sessions through case notes.
• Compile concise and professional reports when required to external bodies, such as the NDIS, Department of Child Safety Youth and Women, Courts, and Police.
• Attend regular supervision and counselling meetings.
Accountability:
The Therapist/Counsellor reports directly to the Team Leader (Therapy).
Individual attributes:
• Experience in working with children.
• Experience in trauma counselling (or looking to gain this experience)
• Proficient in individual counselling and family support
• Sound understanding of the effects of child sexual assault on individual, family, interpersonal and societal levels
• Excellent written, verbal and listening communication skills
• Exceptional organisational skills
• Ability to work autonomously and within a team environment.
• The ability to adapt and respond to work demands.
• Communicate with individuals in a respectful and age-appropriate manner.
• Computer literacy, including proficiency in electronic records and data management tools.
Main responsibilities:
Management and operations:
• Responsible for the delivery of clients centred therapy/counselling services.
• Maintain suitable client appointments management i.e. appointment reminder schedules, appointment details, and questionnaires.
• Utilise the “Single Session Model” to deliver accessible evidence-based therapeutic intervention.
• Provide adequate reporting.
• Assess client on-going therapy needs and make the necessary follow up arrangements.
• Work with clients to establish goals at the start of therapy and revise as needed. Report on individual progress through Client Notes and case sharing at appropriate team meetings.
• Conduct internal formal review of client progress and action outcomes of said reviews.
• Liaise with stakeholders as appropriate e.g. school, Department of Child Safety, Youth and Woman.
• Undertake exit and closing of therapeutic relationships in accordance with service protocols.
• Complete and maintain all relevant client records included but not limited to
• case notes, observations and assessments.
• Respond to clients’ enquiries regarding the range of services provided by Footsteps.
• In circumstances where Footsteps is not the best option for the client, work with the client or stakeholders to find a more suitable alternative support pathway.
• Participate in the development, implementation, and on-going monitoring of individual services.
• Operate as a team member. Participate in training and development as well as team meetings (team meeting attendance is compulsory).
• Contribute to the evaluation and analysis of guidelines, policies and procedures applicable to clinical/professional work and may be required to contribute to the supervision of discipline specific students.
• Contribute to workplace education through provision of seminars, lectures or in-services.
• Contribute and participate in quality improvement practices of the organisation.

Key selection criteria:
YOU MUST have the following, please do not apply if you have not completed your studies.
Mandatory:
• Tertiary qualification in Counselling/Psychology/Occupational Therapy/Social Work/Speech Pathology.
• At minimum, registration with the Australian Counseling Association (ACA) – level 3 or above.
• Right to work in Australia.
• Current working with Children. (Blue Card)
• Current CPR and First Aid Certificate.
• A cleared worker screening check. (NDIS)
• A valid and unrestricted QLD driver’s license.
• Access to a roadworthy vehicle.
• Public liability and indemnity insurance.
Appreciated:
• Experience in support/youth work.
• An understanding of the biopsychosocial model.
• Familiarity with the adverse childhood experiences study (ACE’s).
• An understanding of practice positive behaviour support, evidence-based approaches, and trauma informed practice an advantage.
Interpersonal Skills:
• Excellent communication skills and ability to establish an effective. rapport with clients and stakeholders.
• Ability to provide written reports as necessary.
• Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and autonomously.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and work with senior Management toward organisational goals.
