We are looking for a 5 year+ In-House Legal Counsel to be a key player in our dynamic team.

ABOUT THE ROLE
Reporting to the Head of Legal, this important role provides legal, solution-based advice and requires a high degree of judgement in the commercial application of laws and regulations to the business and its customer base.
Your working week will be busy and diverse and include the following core responsibilities (as an example):
1. Working with and provide legal advice to the business and its customers, including:
- drafting, negotiating, reviewing and advising on a wide range of commercial contracts;
- devising legal strategies to minimise risk to customers and Mutual Marketplace;
- advising on statutory compliance and regulatory issues;
- developing (and updating as appropriate) template agreements, internal policies, other precedents, and processes; and
2. Establishing and maintaining strong working relationships with key stakeholders (internal and external);
3. Monitoring legal and compliance risks and working with the Head of Legal and General Counsel to formulate appropriate mitigation strategies; and
4. Liaising with the procurement team members and other staff as required.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated legal professional with the ability to work independently. They will have a minimum of five years’ experience in commercial and contract law and must hold, or be eligible to obtain, an unrestricted practising certificate. While not essential, experience in the banking and finance sector will be viewed favourably.
In addition, you will:
- be experienced in reviewing, (plain English) drafting and negotiating commercial contracts and associated documents
- possess strong communication skills with natural ability to speak with a wide range of stakeholders, including Mutual Marketplace senior executives and workplace colleagues;
- be experienced in successfully managing stakeholders and their needs
- have strong attention to detail and the ability to prioritise tasks and identify commercial risk.
