PRIMARY FUNCTION:

The Sandblaster/Spray-Painter is responsible for the preparation, priming, painting, and finishing of container builds. This role works closely with the Supervisor and other team members to complete high-quality painting tasks efficiently and safely. The Sandblaster/Spray-Painter plays a critical role in maintaining the quality and durability of finished products.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Operations & Production

• Prepare surfaces for painting, including sanding, masking, and priming.

• Apply paint coatings using spray equipment in accordance with specifications and quality standards.

• Handle, mix, and store paints and chemicals safely, following WHS guidelines.

• Operate spray guns, compressors, and other painting equipment effectively and clean equipment after use.

• Work collaboratively with other trades to meet production deadlines.

• Follow proper drying and curing procedures to ensure paint adhesion and durability.

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE

ESSENTIAL

• Strong understanding of sandblasting and spray-painting methods and techniques and materials.

• Ability to mix and apply different types of paints and coatings.

• Familiarity with surface preparation techniques for optimal paint adhesion.

• Knowledge of WHS regulations, particularly regarding hazardous materials (Sandblasting PPE requirements).

• Competence in using spray guns, compressors, and other painting equipment.

DESIRABLE:

• Experience in automotive or industrial spray-painting environments.

• Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing principles.

• Ability to identify and suggest process improvements and efficiency measures.

• Computer literacy (Microsoft Office, production management systems).

• Knowledge of environmentally friendly coatings and application techniques.

EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL

• Minimum 2 years of experience in spray painting within an industrial, manufacturing, or automotive setting.

• Trade Certificate (Certificate III in Surface Preparation and Coating Application (PMB30121)) or equivalent.

• Experience working in a production or workshop environment.

DESIRABLE:

• Experience working in a fast-paced, high-volume production environment.

• Background in implementing and managing quality control systems.
