The Youth Development Manager is responsible for the planning and delivery of our youth programmes including after school and holiday programmes for school aged children, Youth School (alternative education), Chill Cafe (hangout space), mentoring and youth coaching. In this role you will have the scope to enhance and develop existing programmes with plenty of room for your new ideas. The centre has a strong focus on sports and recreation with its close proximity to Orewa skate park, sports fields, courts, Orewa Estuary (including the famous wharf jump) and Orewa Beach. We are seeking someone keen to make the most of the resources we have on site including our basketball court, kayaks, outdoor climbing/ropes equipment and indoor rock climbing wall, as well as ensuring our offerings are inclusive to young people with varied interests and abilities. In short, we’re looking for a youth champion to help us deliver fun, purposeful, empowering and educational experiences and opportunities for young people aged 5-24.
Qualifications:
A relevant tertiary qualification in Recreation Management, Youth Development, Teaching or equivalent work experience
Full NZ Driver’s License (essential)
First Aid Certificate (desirable, training available if First Aid Cert not held)

– Strong demonstrable knowledge (minimum 2 years’ experience) in delivery and design of youth programmes including school age, holiday programmes, teaching and mentoring
– Knowledge of the structure of, and the role of major organisations play within, the NZ sports and recreation industry. Knowledge of the school physical education curriculum helpful.
– Friendly, professional and engaging manner, able to deliver a high level of customer service
– Sound risk assessment, problem-solving and decision-making skills
– Proven communication skills, both written and verbal, confident with communicating clearly and concisely, able to vary communication style depending upon the audience
– Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to foster effective stakeholder relationships
– Ability to work autonomously as well as in a team; willingness to assist and support others as required and get on with team members
– Good time management, organisation and prioritisation skills
– Strong computer literacy, competence with Microsoft Office. Confidence learning new software and systems
