We are seeking a full-time Assistant Venue Manager to oversee & drive operations from the front at Fortress Sydney! Join our fast-paced team and become an integral part of one of the biggest games culture & entertainment companies in Australia.

About You

We are looking for an experienced and versatile hospitality professional who is commercially minded and confident supporting a Venue Manager in leading a successful team and building strong relationships with both guests and colleagues. You will bring passion, creativity, and initiative to help drive the business forward, model impeccable standards of workplace behaviour & respect, and work to ensure staff are set up for success.

To be successful in this role you will be a mature, energetic, enthusiastic, and positive team player with a can-do attitude and a genuine passion for hospitality & people leadership. You will have contributed to “business building” activities and be comfortable stepping in to problem-solve when challenges arise, even without a set procedure to follow. You will assist in developing and refining processes where needed, and you’ll understand how to foster and maintain a positive workplace culture by leading through example with respect, objectivity, clarity, and proactivity.

This role will be required to work a flexible work pattern involving both day and night shifts during both the week and the weekend, and on Public Holidays. If you love people, games, fun and a passionate work environment this job could be for you!

About the Role

The Assistant Venue Manager is integral to the overall success of the business & our people. Reporting to the Venue Manager, the primary duties of the Assistant Venue Manager are to support the oversight all operations relating to Fortress Sydney and to offer support to the head office team as required.

Your key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Support the Venue Manager with day-to-day operations, including opening/closing, staffing, and resource management.
  • Lead, mentor & supervise Front of House staff, fostering teamwork, diversity & excellence in service.
  • Oversee shift operations, ensuring smooth service, adequate staffing, stock control & supplier coordination.
  • Ensure compliance with OH&S, liquor licensing, food safety & other regulatory requirements, responding to incidents as needed.
  • Deliver high-quality guest experiences by addressing queries, resolving complaints, and assisting with gaming products & systems.
  • Assist with recruitment, rostering, training, performance evaluation, and operational improvements to meet business goals.
  • Exemplifying & driving a clear culture of positivity, mutual respect & integrity within the venue at all times.

What You’ll Bring

  • 3-5+ years of demonstrated management experience in a fast-paced hospitality environment, preferably in a busy entertainment hospitality setting involving food and alcohol service
  • Formal hospitality qualifications will be an advantage
  • Experience in managing teams of 50+ employees, and driving compliant processes and procedures around staff development, performance management and complaints handling
  • Holds a current NSW Responsible Service of Alcohol Certificate, First Aid Certificate, and Employee-level Working With Children Check
  • Ability to understand, work with and deliver on budgets, forecasts & objective-based reporting
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills, both written and verbal, together with a high level of strategic and analytical thinking
  • Demonstrated relationship management experience and highly developed interpersonal skills
  • Advanced computer and system platform literacy
  • Exceptional organisational, time management and people skills with the ability to work cross-functionally
  • A professional standard of presentation with a friendly demeanour, an approachable attitude and a willingness to support other team members
  • Ability to think quickly and problem-solve in a fast-paced environment
  • A sound understanding of games culture and demographics will be an advantage
  • Flexibility to work a variable roster around the event schedule, including weekends and nights as required
