Senior Technician – Production

Description

The Carriageworks Senior Technician – Production is part of the delivery team responsible for Carriageworks productions, events and programs. They provide hands-on technical support and frontline service to visiting companies, clients and production teams. The Senior Technician – Production will actively assist in delivering high-end technical support in collaboration with production teams to ensure the successful execution of each production/event. The Senior Technician – Production is responsible for supervising Carriageworks technical crew in all technical aspects of live theatre production.

This is a seasonal, fixed term contract – Rostered hours between 06:00 – 00:00 Monday to Sunday.

AVAILABLE CONTRACTS

  • 1 x 8 week contract from June 11th – August 3rd
  • 1 x 7 week contract from June 16th – August 1st
  • 1 x 6 week contract from June 23rd – August 3rd (possible extension available)

Induction days will be arranged prior to the above start dates – as required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Apply high-end technical skills in the staging of productions and events, including interpreting technical plans, building working technical systems and maintaining the systems for the season.
  • Lead Carriageworks technical crews to work as an integrated unit with external technical crew members to ensure the success of each production.
  • Work with the presenting companies and Production Managers to resolve technical issues through the appropriate channels.
  • •Monitor the usage of equipment, maintain appropriate records, and ensure proper and safe use of all equipment.
  • Provide high level customer service and technical assistance to ensure a positive working relationship for clients, artists and visiting companies.
  • Assist with the maintenance and turnaround of theatre venues between productions, maintaining Carriageworks’ high production standards.
  • Ensure the tidiness and good order of back-of-house spaces.
  • Conduct opening and closing venue procedures and daily reporting when required.
  • Ensure productions adhere to all WHS requirements and assist in safety management and conducting safety inductions when required.
  • Maintain a safe working environment for all crew members.

PREFERRED CRITERIA

  • Experience in the live performance industry with a solid understanding of the essential technical aspects of live production and theatre
  • Demonstrated experience working within and leading a technical team.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a team with excellent communication skills, including advocacy, negotiation, and conflict resolution.
  • Practical technical experience in two or more production areas, including lighting, audio, vision, staging.
  • Commitment to high level, solution-focused customer service.
  • Ability to quickly diagnose and resolve technical issues during rehearsals and performances.
  • Comfortable lifting heavy equipment and maintaining a physically demanding schedule.
  • Have experience working at height using a scissor lift and a vertical man lift.
  • The ability to work a flexible 7-day rotating roster that includes nights and weekends. The roster is based on performance schedules from Monday to Sunday. Full availability is required.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Workplace Health & Safety (WH&S).

DESIRABLE CRITERIA

  • EWP, forklift, and/or rigging licenses.
  • Test and tag certification.
  • First aid certification.
  • Drivers license.
