As our Data Engineer, you will play a critical role in driving the design, development, and implementation of scalable and high-performance data solutions. This role integrates the strategic foresight of an architect with the hands-on capabilities of an engineer/developer. You will work under the Principal Data Engineer, leading the development of platform strategies, including those utilising Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and BigQuery for data warehousing and analysis. You will be ensuring the performance and scalability of our data systems within GCP, overseeing the practical development and hand-off of these solutions to the business.
Key Responsibilities

Collaborate on Strategy & Architecture: Work with the Principal Data Engineer to design scalable, high-performing data platforms aligned with business goals.

Ensure Governance & Compliance: Maintain architectural standards, compliance, and manage data platform risks.

Develop Data Solutions: Use SQL, Python, and cloud tools (AWS/GCP) to build and maintain efficient data systems.

Build Scalable Pipelines: Create robust data pipelines and architectures that handle growth and complexity.

Optimize Performance: Monitor and improve platform speed, scalability, and reliability.

Enforce Data Security: Apply security best practices, assess risks, and maintain compliance documentation.

Collaborate Across Teams: Work with data scientists, analysts, and others to deliver innovative solutions.

Mentor & Guide Team: Support team development and promote continuous learning and excellence.

Maintain Data Quality: Participate in data reviews and follow best practices to ensure accurate pipelines.

Keep Learning & Improving: Stay current on tech trends and drive improvements in tools and processes.

Oversee Testing & Releases: Manage data testing and coordinate smooth deployment of updates.

Research New Tech: Explore and assess new tools to enhance the data platform.
Required Skills & Experience
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field (essential).
- Postgraduate qualifications in management (desirable).
- 5 years experience in IT, with a strong background in software architecture and development.
- Expertise in SQL, Python and cloud services (AWS, GCP, Azure).
- Experience with data warehousing solutions such as Redshift, BigQuery, or Snowflake is highly desirable.
- Experience in working with and the handling of Personal Information (PI)
- Strong analytical skills with meticulous attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Self-motivated, with proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to effectively prioritise and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
- Capability to work both independently and in a team-oriented collaborative environment.
