About the role

Biosis Australia is growing, and we’d love you to be part of it!

We’re excited to welcome a new Graduate Zoologist or Zoologist to our team based in Port Melbourne. This opportunity is ideal for an ambitious early-career ecologist eager to grow in the field. Working under the guidance of experienced colleagues, you’ll contribute to high-quality ecological and biodiversity assessments across a variety of projects in Victoria and New South Wales.

In this role, you will support senior staff in fieldwork, data management, ecological analysis, and reporting. You’ll also contribute to fauna identification, habitat assessments, impact mitigation strategies, and the preparation of ecological reports. The position offers a rich learning environment and the chance to develop practical expertise while working on diverse, real-world environmental projects

Key Responsibilities:

• With guidance, lead the planning and delivery of fauna and habitat field assessments across a variety of project types and environments.

• Ensure ecological data is accurately captured, stored, and analysed to support precise assessment and reporting.

• Support the preparation of project documentation, technical reports, and client deliverables.

• Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure timely, professional delivery of consulting services.

• Undertake desktop reviews, field surveys (both day and night), and ecological assessments.

• Assist with species identification, habitat mapping, and biodiversity monitoring

• Contribute to the preparation of high-quality ecological reports and environmental impact assessments.

• Work as part of multidisciplinary teams across the urban development, infrastructure, energy, water, and conservation sectors.

• Manage the preparation of flora and fauna assessments and ecological management plans.

To be successful in this role, you will need:

• Degree in Zoology, Ecology, Environmental Science or related discipline.

• Field experience in fauna surveys, ecological monitoring, or habitat assessments (university, volunteering or consultancy).

• Experience with ecological field surveys and logistics.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

• A current and valid driver’s licence.

• You must have the right to work in Australia to apply for this job.

Desirable:

• Knowledge of Victorian ecosystems, native fauna, and relevant environmental legislation (e.g., EPBC Act, FFG Act, Planning and Environment Act).
