The Opportunity:
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Assistant Accountant supports the business by performing key accounting duties, ensuring the smooth operation of the A-Leagues financial processes. The primary function is to assist with the preparation of financial records, manage invoicing and expense processing, and ensuring accurate bookkeeping.
The Assistant Account position is integral to the financial health of the A-Leagues, providing vital support to the Finance department. This role works in tandem across all functions and in alignment with A-Leagues core values to actively contribute to an agile and action-oriented team

The Responsibilities:
Accounts payable management
- Guide operation al staff in processing supplier invoices accurately and on a timely basis.
- Monitor supplier invoices against budgets and forecasts.
- Manage the supplier software system, Dext and Approval Max.
- Process and manage the weekly payment run, including preparation of remittance advices.
- Request statements from suppliers to ensure the general ledger is accurate and investigate any discrepancies.
- Build up a relationship with suppliers, handling all queries and correspondence in a professional and timely manner.
- Produce monthly accounts payable reports.
- Management of the corporate credit card process including following up staff acquittals, entering transactions into the general ledger and being the main point of contact for administrative requirements for all business credit cards.
- Assist in month end closing; ensuring all invoices & expenses relating to the month are received and processed.
- Management of travel expenses incurred with A-Leagues travel management company including distribution of data internally.
- Process all staff expenses ensuring they are coded correctly and posted to the general ledger including cash advances.
- Process withdrawals weekly for bank reconciliations.
- Maintain the filing of invoices in a timely manner.
- Other duties as required.
Accounting and reporting duties
- Daily bank reconciliations.
- Maintain daily cashbook and short term cashflow forecast for the business.
- Financial accounting tasks and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Management reporting.
- Partner with cost centre dept heads – provide monthly reporting and analysis, and assist them with budgets and forecasts.

About You:
- A degree in Commerce – Accounting
- Minimum 5 + years’ experience in a relevant function
- Solid financial accounting capability
- Management accounting capability, including advanced excel skills
- Experience in various ERP systems (XERO, Approval Max and Dext experience highly desirable)
- Comfortable with Microsoft Office suite
- Self-reliant, good problem solver, and results and data driven
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong relationship building skills
- Innovative thinker
- Excellent judgement and creative problem-solving skills
- Superior management skills; ability to influence and engage direct and indirect reports, peers and agency stakeholders
- Energetic, flexible, collaborative and proactive
- Experience with Power BI highly desirable
