Restaurant General Manager
We’re hiring a General Manager to lead Melbournes Newest Venue “From Here by Mike”, in this role you will be overseeing daily operations, managing a skilled team, and ensuring a consistently high level of service. This role combines hands-on leadership with a focus on execution, team development, and guest satisfaction. With a strong emphasis on wine-forward service and operational excellence, the General Manager will play a key role in shaping both the dining experience and the long-term success of the restaurant.
What You’ll Do
- Oversee daily operations with a dynamic, hands-on approach that motivates teams and ensures excellence across service, food, and beverage.
- Lead and inspire through our Good-Natured Service philosophy—fostering genuine connections with guests and team members.
- Be a visible leader during peak service periods, setting the tone and enhancing the overall dining atmosphere.
- Collaborate with our culinary and beverage teams to refine a wine program that reflects our sustainable ethos and elevates the guest experience.
- Guide your team in wine education, fostering a culture where every staff member can speak with passion and knowledge about our curated list.
- Resolve guest concerns with care and professionalism, turning moments of challenge into opportunities for connection and loyalty.
- Manage financial performance—including labor, purchasing, inventory, and P&L accountability.
- Partner with Marketing and Hotel Leadership to tell our story through events, tastings, and wine-forward promotions.
- Hire, train, and retain a high-performing team aligned with our values and guest promise.
- Champion continuous improvement through insights, mentorship, and a commitment to excellence.
- Ensure compliance with all brand, safety, and financial guidelines.
- Work cross-functionally to ensure the space is always guest-ready and every touchpoint—from glassware to playlists—enhances the sensory experience.
- Elevate our wine service to a cornerstone of the restaurant’s identity, with guest experiences that are as memorable for the pour as for the plate
About You
- 4+ years in senior restaurant leadership, ideally within high end environment with extensive wine knowledge
- Deep appreciation for food and wine—especially organic, biodynamic, or low-intervention labels—and a desire to educate and inspire others around them.
- Natural communicator and motivator with the ability to lead with empathy and precision.
- Unflappable under pressure, highly organized, and able to adapt to a fast-paced, evolving operation.
- Proven leadership skills rooted in accountability, passion, and purpose.
- Financially literate, with experience managing budgets, purchasing, payroll, and profitability.
- Flexible and attuned to the rhythm of a seven-day-a-week hospitality operation.
