resources, and the urban development sector.
Our national biodiversity team is known for our wide ranging and extensive technical expertise and our robust biodiversity assessments. Our services are in high demand and continue to grow on the back of new and exciting projects, including within the renewable energy,
infrastructure and resource sectors. At all times, our goal is to use our expertise to provide specialist advice to balance development, impact avoidance and offsetting results that achieve the best possible environmental outcome.
About the Role:
This role is suited to a terrestrial ecologist with a strong interest in ecological restoration, land management and condition based ecological assessment. You will join and develop as a key member of the Ecology Qld team as we expand our capability in offsets restoration and embed
stronger land management outcomes across offset strategies and project delivery. The role will involve a balanced mix of fieldwork, data analysis, GIS and reporting, with a primary focus on contributing to offset related deliverables. Opportunities will also be available to support the broader ecology team across projects. This position will particularly suit someone who has implemented, supported or assessed a range of management interventions and understands their effectiveness within bushland management or ecological restoration contexts.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with a range of terrestrial ecological field surveys including vegetation and habitat mapping, fauna surveys, offset property assessments and Habitat Quality Assessments
- Identify, assess and recommend land management actions relating to threats, disturbances, regenerative capacity and restoration interventions
- Utilise GIS and desktop ecological data to undertake and support regional to property
scale ecological and/or offset assessments
- Analyse ecological and spatial data including that pertaining to habitat quality assessment data to inform baseline condition, monitoring and restoration outcomes
- Contribute to the preparation of technical reports and offset deliverables
- Support restoration planning, implementation frameworks and monitoring programs across offset sites
About You:
We are seeking a motivated and capable ecologist who meets the following criteria:
- Tertiary qualifications in environmental science, ecology, botany, zoology or a related discipline
- Approximately 2 – 5 years of relevant experience, ideally including bushland regeneration and/or ecological restoration projects (as a land manager or consultant). Experience working within a consulting environment is desirable
- Experience in terrestrial flora and/or fauna surveys
- Experience in analysing ecological data using Excel and contributing to clear, concise technical report writing
- Practical understanding of land management and restoration processes (e.g. weed management, regeneration and disturbance response)
- Highly motivated to contribute to meaningful ecological outcomes within a collaborative team
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Willingness to work flexible hours and travel for fieldwork as required
