About the Role

The On-Call, Outreach & Intake Support Officer will play a key role in managing the on-call roster and coordinating outreach services. This position involves overseeing the on-call roster and supporting our therapists as they deliver outreach services to communities around Cairns and beyond. Additionally, the role includes providing support for the Intake Officer when needed, ensuring smooth administrative processes and efficient client intake management.

Our Cairns Sexual Assault Service provides vital therapeutic support to survivors aged 12 and older. In partnership with Queensland Police and Queensland Health, we offer a 24/7 on-call response, assisting survivors at hospitals or police stations within 30 minutes of notification. The service ensures immediate crisis intervention, connects survivors to free counselling and support, and advocates for their rights and autonomy. The role also involves coordinating outreach programs that extend critical services to outlying communities and priority populations.

We are looking for an experienced multitasker – someone who is well organised and can keep the On-Call & Outreach functions of our service running smoothly. Strong knowledge of the impacts and dynamics of sexual assault and violence.

The role of the On-Call, Outreach & Intake Support Officer at Cairns Sexual Assault Service (CSAS) is to:

  • Manage incoming/outgoing communication, including emails, mail, and service requests.
  • Develop and optimise on-call staff rosters and divert the on-call phone inside and outside of business hours.
  • Address urgent scheduling issues and fill On-Call shifts due to unplanned leave or emergencies.
  • Provide administrative support to on-call support workers and therapists delivering scheduled outreach work.
  • Contribute to service delivery development responsive to client and community needs.
  • Provide crisis support to clients aged 12 and over who have been sexually assaulted.
  • Serve as backup for Intake & Administration Officer when needed.
  • Record client intake data and report on service hours for funding purposes.
  • Debrief on On-Call, Intake & Outreach matters and refer complex cases to line management.
  • Facilitate training and mentor On-Call Support Workers.
  • Maintain files according to procedures and participate in audits.
  • Assist in developing new procedures for On-Call and Outreach programs.
  • Work within the standards and principles of True’s framework for safeguarding children and vulnerable adults.

Selection Criteria

  • Certificate/diploma-level qualifications or transferable skills in human services or nursing, or significant current progress towards the same and/or relevant work experience.
  • Experience or willingness to provide crisis support.
  • Proven experience in a rostering/scheduling role within the crisis response sector and handling incidents effectively.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and find solutions to complex rostering challenges.
  • Ability to work both autonomously and as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Demonstrated understanding of the issues facing survivors of sexual violence and current issues in the area of sexual assault, including relevant legislation.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Desirable knowledge of interagency protocols for responding to sexual assault.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide appropriate and timely written case notes.
  • Rigorous management of bilateral agreements and associated commitments.
  • High-level resilience to fulfil the demands of the role.
  • Current Queensland C Class driver’s license.
  • Current Positive Notice Blue Card or registered with an approved regulated workforce.
  • Compliance with True’s vaccination policy.
