We are seeking a highly organized and friendly individual to join our medical practice as a Medical Receptionist / Senior Receptionist. As the first point of contact for patients, you will play a vital role in ensuring their experience is positive and efficient.
About the Role:
This is a casual position, requiring flexible working hours which may include weekend rosters from time to time. The ideal candidate should also be available for staff sick cover on weekdays (including Sundays) and to cover Practice Manager leave days when needed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Warmly greet patients upon arrival and ensure they feel comfortable throughout their visit.
- Schedule appointments accurately using the practice’s electronic scheduling system.
- Answer phone calls promptly and assist with inquiries or direct callers to the appropriate staff member.
- Manage patient records, ensuring accurate and up-to-date information.
- Verify insurance coverage for new patients and update insurance details for existing patients.
- Collect co-payments or outstanding balances from patients at check-in or check-out as necessary.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the reception area, including stocking brochures and pamphlets if required.
- Collaborate with medical staff regarding appointment schedule changes or urgent patient needs.
- Handle incoming and outgoing mail efficiently, sorting correspondence and documents as needed.
Requirements & Qualifications:
- Minimum of 13 years of experience in a medical practice is essential.
- Proficiency in Best Practice (BP) software is a must.
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional education/training in healthcare administration is a plus.
- Strong organizational skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite and electronic health record systems.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Exceptional customer service skills with a professional and compassionate approach.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive patient information responsibly.
- Ability to remain composed under pressure while providing high-quality patient care.
Additional Requirements:
Employees may take on extra shifts, so availability for staff sick cover on weekdays (including Sundays) and Practice Manager leave days is highly desirable. Advance to Practice Supervior / 2IC if you are thinking of a career in Medical Centre Administration within our growing number of Practices located in Southside Brisbane/Logan suburbs.
