Ngwala Willumbong Aboriginal Corporation is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation that is dedicated to delivering quality specialist Alcohol and Drug Treatment, Housing and Homeless and other services to meet the needs of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander (ATSI) People and their families. Our services operate across Victoria.

The Job

The Community Engagement Worker at Ngwala Willumbong Aboriginal Corporation plays a crucial part in providing support to Northern outreach workers. This role will facilitate group sessions aimed at providing support, sharing knowledge, and supporting community engagement and connection for the community.

The role is responsible for:

  • Work with all people through a staged approach to community connection and inclusion, including engagement, exploring strengths, interests and aspirations and setting goals, Skill development, Engaging and connecting to natural supports, Transition planning, closure and on-going self management
  • Support people to be at the centre of all the decisions, goals and plans.
  • Support and encourage people to become connected to groups and community activities in accordance with the young person’s interests.
  • Coach and mentor people in developing practical life skills that promote opportunities for social participation and skill building in education, employment, housing and the community
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of a safe, secure and planned environment where in people’s developmental needs are met.
  • Pro-actively participate in team meetings, supervision and the development of an effective program and positive team culture, working closely with all members of the residential care program.
  • Accurately update and maintain client information, in accordance with Departmental guidelines, program guidelines and Anglicare Victoria privacy and confidentiality policies. Complete incident reports and associated follow-up within Anglicare Victoria’s risk management and reporting frameworks and timelines.
  • • Participate in data collection to inform detailed evaluation of the program.

Your Skills & Experience

  • A minimum of Certificate IV in Alcohol & Other Drugs, Community Services, or related field.
  • Experience and understanding of relevant programs; Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD), Homelessness, Social, Emotional Well-Being Positions (SEWB)
  • Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities
  • Experience providing tailored community engagement support to meet individual needs of high risk of people.
  • Good organisation and time management skills
  • Demonstrated skills in working directly with young people to build their social, emotional and life skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multi skilled team as well as independently with initiative
  • Able to develop positive relationships with clients and work within a stressful environment
  • Experience in group facilitation.

Mandatory Requirements:

  • Victorian Driver’s License
  • National Police Certificate (no older than 3 months).
  • Victorian Employment Working with Children Check
