About the Role: We’re seeking personable and skilled Disability Support Workers to assist a vibrant, intelligent quadriplegic client in Berwick. Our client is recovering from hospital stays, requires 24/7 complex care, and enjoys hobbies like reading, board games, and space documentaries. You’ll join a welcoming team offering long shifts, paid training, and a positive work environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide personal care (feeding, toileting, hoist transfers).
- Support client’s interests and hobbies (board games, space documentaries).
- Administer medications and monitor health (epilepsy, chronic pain).
- Accompany client to community activities and appointments.
- Follow daily care routines, including epilepsy, asthma, and anxiety protocols.
- Assist with domestic duties (meal preparation, kitchen cleaning, laundry).
- COVID Safety: We are committed to a COVID-safe environment. This includes daily temperature checks, wearing N95 masks, and weekly RATs (provided). All team members must follow these protocols to ensure the safety of the client and staff.
- Client’s Pet Dog: Our client has a sweet, medium-sized dog who is well-loved but may bark at the door. You must be comfortable working in a home with a pet.
Requirements:
- Cert 3 in Disability/Aged Care/Individual Support or significant care experience.
- Strong manual handling experience (hoist transfers, showering, toileting).
- Excellent spoken and written English skills.
- Willingness to learn and follow care protocols.
- Must be within 45 minutes of Berwick.

Required Attributes
- Be aware of, and invested in, person-centered care. Please describe what that means to you.
- Have nursing training, or be studying this area, or have significant disability experience with complex and/or high needs clients with physical disabilities. Please list the related experience you have in one of these areas.
- We do full hoist transfers, manual lifts and repositioning, as our client is a quadriplegic. Please explain your experience (not just training) in manual handling, including the use of full hoist/sling transfers, showering/toileting someone on a commode and changing pads in bed.
- Are willing and able to follow complex protocols (we will give you plenty of time and paid support and training to learn these). Please outline what sort of protocols you have coped with well in the past, and your commitment to learn them for our client.
