About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Melbourne based Solicitor (1-2 Years PAE) within our Casualty & Commercial Lines Practice group on full-time basis. This role reports into Practice group lead and Partner, Iona Sjahadi.

As Solicitor within the HBA Legal team, you will provide advice and assistance to our clients in dealing with their legal matters in Victoria.

Working closely with preeminent leaders in the industry, you will grow your technical skills in key areas such as legal writing, research and information synthesis, analytical thinking and commercial acumen.

What you’d be doing in this role:

  • Undertaking and completing work with the expected level of guidance and supervision.
  • Proactively sharing knowledge, experience and insights with your immediate and wider team in order to enhance client experience and internal knowledge management.
  • Taking an engaged and curious approach to work, professional development and the law in general.
  • Conferring with colleagues and experts with specialties to establish and verify basis for legal position and strategic decisions.
  • Delegating and managing work direction to administrative assistants.
  • Ensuring understanding and compliance with the firm’s policies and procedures as well as staying abreast of industry updates including constitution, statutes, decisions, regulation and ordinances of quasi-judicial bodies to determine ramifications for cases.
  • Take a proactive approach to sharing industry updates and information to clients through newsletter articles.
  • Be a HBA brand ambassador through demonstrating support and contributing to the firm’s strategic vision and values.

You’re probably a match if you:

  • Have 1-2 years post admission experience in Public Liability or general Insurance matters or similar comparable experience within the Insurance industry.
  • Hold a current Practising Certificate or willingness to obtain.
  • Are able to demonstrate strong communication skills through building mutually beneficial relationships both internally and externally and the ability to engage openly with people at all levels including senior level decision makers.
  • Have the ability to manage diary, Court timetables and workload effectively across multiple matters.
  • Regularly liaise with team leads in relation to work progress and demonstrate creativity and willingness to be involved in tactical decisions
  • Are open to learning new things and willingness to inject oneself into new opportunities
  • Have the desire to rapidly expand knowledge base and practical legal skills
  • Contribute well to the team and work collaboratively and effectively across the organisation
